Volunteers Week Banner

1-7 June is volunteers week!

There is plenty of research out there to show the positive impact volunteering can have on our mental health and wellbeing - as the Mental Health Foundation says, 'Doing good does you good'. That's why we are supporting Volunteers' Week this June. Read on for events and activities going on in our area and ways you can get involved....

  • You can join a Celebration of Volunteering event to mark Volunteers' Week in Warwickshire, at Ambleside Sports Club in Nuneaton on Tuesday 11 June. Find out more
  • Read Warwickshire CAVA’s latest Volunteering Bulletin here 
  • Independent Advocacy at Stoneleigh Park will host a Volunteers' picnic from 12pm - 2pm on Thursday 6 June. 
  • Coventry Museums will be hosting a number of stalls during the week at different venues. Find out more 
  • Read how student Randa Alsomali benefited from volunteering when she came to study at Coventry University - Read Randa's story. Colin Tysall, a volunteer at Belgrade Theatrealso shares how he has benefited from his contributions. Read Colin's story.

10-16 June is Carers’ Week! 

Carers Week 2019

This week is an opportunity to recognise the contribution of the 6.5 million people in the UK who are carers, and also to think about their needs and wellbeing - not just those of the people they care for.

What's on in Coventry and Warwickshire

Carers Trust Heart of England will be out and about across the area during the week to raise awareness of carers and the issues important to them.

The Carers’ Wellbeing event on 12 June, 10am - 2pm in Nuneaton, organised in conjunction with the Healthy Living Network, will be providing free lunch vouchers, hand massages, mini head massages and other beauty treatments. Carers Trust Wellbeing Workers will also be on hand for information and advice alongside the Healthy Living Network for Health and Wellbeing advice.

Bumper health and wellbeing action in May!

There was lots of action across the area in May. Mental Health Awareness Week and Dementia Action Week ensured the month was busy!

Ekta drumming Belgrade

The Belgrade Theatre held a four day symposium about arts and wellbeing.

Ekta ran a drumming workshop for participants at the Belgrade event​.

Suitcase Stories reminiscence sessions

 

Suitcase Stories, run by Arts Uplift, began 10 weeks of music and reminiscence sessions to combat dementia, held in libraries at Alcester and Kenilworth.

Tea and Talk Dementia awareness event

 

Gordon Bradley was just one local resident to enjoy the Tea and Talk event at St. George's Church in Coundon during Dementia Action Week.

Year of Wellbeing Festival 18 May

 

Hundreds of people visited the 30-plus stalls during the Year of Wellbeing Festival in Broadgate, Coventry on 18 May.


Howes Inclusive Sports Festival

School creates Inclusive Sports Festival 

Howes Primary School in Coventry is planning a fantastic action-filled afternoon to help get more children more active, on Friday 21 June. 

More than 200 youngsters will join sports sessions planned for local schools, from boccia to wheelchair basketball. 

From 3.30pm - 6pm, the sessions will also be open to families who want to try something new.

Blog puts Year of Wellbeing in spotlight 

Coventry and Warwickshire’s Year of Wellbeing went national, thanks to our blog recently featured on the What Works for Wellbeing Centre’s website.

Change Grow Live Fair

Time for you to be good to yourself!

Change Grow Live Coventry is running a three day Health and Wellbeing event at their Lamb Street headquarters, kicking off on 5 June.

Why not make some time to think about yourself and pop along for advice on a whole range of topics from housing to healthy living, free check-ups from the community dentist and podiatrist, beauty tips and prizes or just a cuppa and a chat.

The Year of Wellbeing is organised by the Coventry and Warwickshire Health and Wellbeing Boards which include representation from all of the NHS organisations in our area, together with Healthwatch, local councils, the police and the fire service. The aim of the year is to share resources to support stronger, healthier communities, and to promote the important of taking action to improve health and wellbeing.
