On your feet Coventry and Warwickshire, on 26 April!

On your feet Britain

Did you know that British people sit for around nine hours each day? Are you one of them? You can change that!

Help us get Coventry and Warwickshire moving for the day on Thursday 26 April to boost your wellbeing, and the wellbeing of people around you!

The 'On your feet' website has free downloadable resources and lots of ideas for how to join in the movement! You can also sign up to register details of any event you've organised to get people to #SitLess and #MoveMore. Let us know what you have been up to #letsdothistogethercw @YearofW

Kids Run Free Sam's Blog

Can we help Sam move more this year?

Sam works for children's physical-activity charity Kids Run Free, an organisation supporting the Year of Wellbeing and helping to get children moving.

Sam is passionate about encouraging children to live active lifestyles but at the same time battles with her own demons, which she writes about in her honest blog post.

Perhaps Sam will inspire you to make your pledge for the year to take up more exercise. Or maybe you can encourage others to start!

Children's Mile

Kids get the Festival of Running started

Coventry’s Festival of Running, one of the events organised as part of the city's European Year of Sport, got off to a fantastic start on 17 March, with a Children’s Mile and a Toddler Dash in Memorial Park.

Another 4,000 runners will take on the Coventry Half Marathon and GoRun 5k on 24 March. Registration closes at midnight on 21 March so its not too late to join the race!

There are lots of other races taking place across the area this year, so get your running shoes on and join in the action! The Find a Race website is a great place to find events near you and the best bit is there is something to suit all abilities, from fun and colour runs, to triathlons and ultra marathons.

If the idea of any kind of running fills you with dread, then the Couch to 5k programme could help get you started. It worked for our blogger Karen, who now organises running and walking activities for others.

Social Prescribing Day 2019 Jackie Skipp

International Social Prescribing Day 2019

Thursday 14 March was International Social Prescribing Day.

Connect Well is Warwickshire's own ground-breaking social prescribing programme, aiming to improve people's health and wellbeing by linking them with a range of non-medical community activities and organisations.

Read Jackie Skipp’s blog about her voluntary role helping to connect people to groups, services and resources near where they live.

Nutrition and Hydration Week

Nutrition and Hydration Week 2019

Have you been busy with Nutrition and Hydration Week?

The week exists to highlight the importance of food and drink in maintaining wellbeing in health and social care.

We have produced handy posters about healthy hydration, intended for anyone in Coventry and Warwickshire to use.

Warwickshire Hydration Partnership have provided the advice, which is about how everyone can check if they need to have more to drink.

If you have organised any activity during the week, why not let us know using #letsdothistogethercw @YearofW

Warwickshire Red Bag Scheme

The Red Bag scheme is now up and running in Warwickshire!

The scheme aims to enable a quick, safe and well organised handover when a care home resident is admitted to hospital.

You can read more about the launch here.

Coventry launched the scheme in summer 2018 and have seen it already making a difference to residents and their relatives. Read more about the Coventry project here.

Funding boost for wellbeing in south Warwickshire

£80,000 has been awarded to projects in south Warwickshire to promote residents' health and wellbeing.

The funding will be shared between 10 different projects, supporting a variety of vulnerable groups such as training for young people in mental health first aid and supporting people living with dementia and their carers.

You can read more here.

The Year of Wellbeing is organised by the Coventry and Warwickshire Health and Wellbeing Boards which include representation from all of the NHS organisations in our area, together with Healthwatch, local councils, the police and the fire service. The aim of the year is to share resources to support stronger, healthier communities, and to promote the importance of taking action to improve health and wellbeing.
