Contractors at Juniper House, Walthamstow, have started installing lights across the site to make it safer for staff working there during winter’s shorter daylight hours.
There will also be some low-level lights on the boundary of the site designed to provide downward light to improve security on the site while avoiding light pollution to neighbours.
The lights will be run from the mains rather than from generators so there should be no noise disturbance for residents living near the site.
It is hoped that some disconnected street lighting can also be reconnected to provide safer routes for pedestrian and cyclists outside the site hoardings.

If you travel by tube from Walthamstow Station you can see how far work is progressing at Juniper House where a 53-place nursery is being built along with commercial space to provide local employment and 91 new homes, with 50 per cent of this being affordable.
Our picture is taken from the Hoe Street bridge over the line and shows the progress made on the new homes and commercial space at the bridge end and the nursery and more homes further down the line.
The Government’s current national lockdown guidelines has made clear that construction work should continue if safe to do so.
All sites are COVID secure, clearly signed, and respect social distancing guidelines, with hand sanitation stations.
Council officers regularly visit construction sites across the borough to ensure that regulations are being followed.
