Waltham Forest Connected business support event on Zoom

Business engagement

As businesses resume trading during Covid-19, we've invited senior Council officers to directly engage with local businesses at an online event, which will provide details on the toolkit of business support available from the Council.

There will be a Q&A session and we will be inviting you to send questions ahead of the meeting.

It takes place on Tuesday 11 August between 10am and 11am. 

Programme

  • Councillor Simon Miller – Economic Recovery Plan;
  • Ian Rae – Regeneration and investment plans e.g.Town Hall Campus and EMD CInema project;
  • Maureen Branch-Davis – Business support and the launch of the High Streets Business Support Programme;
  • Zoe Seller – Leytonstone and Chingford area masterplanning;
  • Yassir Sadiq – Local business experience during COVID-19;
  • Q&A.

Discretionary grants

Discretionary Grants support certain small businesses that were not able to access previous grants administered by the Council.  

There are seven categories of grants available: 

  • Larger hospitality and leisure businesses;  
  • Businesses using shared workspaces;  
  • Council licensed market traders; 
  • Charities and Community Interest Companies 
  • Suppliers to the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors;   
  • Community cafes in borough parks; 
  • Bed and breakfasts paying council tax.  

Applicants must have a commercial premises; suffered a loss of income due to Covid-19; have been trading on 11 March; and be classified as a small/micro business.

Chris Barrett, thinkFOUND

Supporting our town centres to recover from Covid-19 is a hugely important part of our Choose Local. Support Everyone. campaign, but other sectors need your support too.

Chris Barrett runs thinkFOUND, a Leyton-based company which crafts beautiful bespoke furniture and prides itself on providing struggling young people with opportunities to progress.

Chris’ story is inspired by his own background and is marked by a desire to support the Waltham Forest community.

Register for Eat Out to Help Out

Eat Out to Help Out

Restaurants and other establishments serving food for on-premises consumption can sign up to a new Government initiative encouraging people to safely return to dining out.

Restaurants, bars, cafes and other establishments will be able to offer a 50% reduction and reclaim the discounted amount through HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)

The discount is up to a maximum of £10 per person, to all diners who eat and/or drink-in between Monday and Wednesday throughout August. 

The scheme is open to eligible establishments across the UK and can be used all day,

Reporting an Outbreak - information for businesses

The Government has published advice on how to respond to an outbreak of Covid-19 to individuals that own, manage or are responsible for a specific business or organisation within the community by;

  • Identifying an outbreak of Covid-19 (one or more confirmed case depending on the business or organisation)
  • Reporting the outbreak to your local health protection team
  • Working with your local health protection team to respond
