Taking on anti-social behaviour

Essex Close Estate

Anti-social behaviour is being reduced on and around the Essex Close estate.

This success is down to successful partnership working between Waltham Forest Housing, the Council's Anti-Social Behaviour team, the Metropolitan Police and, crucially, the support of residents on the estate.

We know there is more work that needs to be done. The Council will build on its work with residents and the police as well as other partners to see other improvements we can make to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area further.

Please continue to report any anti-social behaviour you witness or experience to the police by dialling 101 for assistance. If there is a clear and present danger please dial 999. You can also report anti-social behaviour anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

In addition to reporting incidents to the police, please make sure you keep your Housing Officer updated of any incidents that take place so they can take appropriate action to address the issue and support you.

Thank you to all the residents who have been reporting anti-social behaviour.

Keeping you in the picture on CCTV

CCTV camera

The temporary CCTV cameras in place on Essex Close have had a positive response from residents. We know they have helped drive down anti-social behaviour.

The cameras will remain in place until the end of January.

Meanwhile discussions about creating a permanent solution to helping make Essex Close a safer and better place to live are on-going.

We’ll let you know the outcomes of those talks very soon.

Essex Close day

Essex Close Estate day 2019b

A big thank you to all the residents who came along and supported our first ever resident day on Essex Close estate.

Tenants and leaseholders were able to enjoy the free BBQ chicken and fun stuff like the bouncy castle, face painting and the smoothie bike.

The day was also an opportunity for residents to talk face to face with housing officers about any issues they had with the tenancy as well as report any repairs issues directly with our main contractors Aston and Morgan Sindall.

Some of the residents also signed up on the day to a resident action group which is currently looking to create a Tenants and Residents Association for the estate.

The time to get involved

hands 270 x 200

A Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) is a really good way for your collective voice to raises the issues that matter to you all, from repairs and grounds maintenance to anti-social behaviour and the introduction of permanent CCTV onto the estate.

The Essex Close Action Group is looking for more residents to join them and help create a TRA that will be a real voice for the estate.

Being part of a TRA does not mean devoting huge amounts of time to the association.

Remember that you are always welcome to join us on our regular estate inspections. The time, date and meeting place of the inspections will be posted on estate noticeboards.

Parking Update

cars

A programme of parking enforcement will be rolled out on our housing estates in 2020.

Vehicles blocking access on our estates is a major safety concern to the fire service, and it upsets many residents.

Once restrictions are in place, enforcement officers can issue Penalty Charge Notices when cars park on emergency access routes or in front of garages.

Before we introduce these rules on parking on your estate, we’ll make sure you are fully aware of what is happening.

Can you dig it?

Market primulas in bloom flowers

Fancy joining a gardening circle; volunteers helping creating a garden patch on the estate.

This would bring blooming colour to the area, and provide free and fresh vegetables and herbs for tenants. The group is open to all residents, young and old, and is a great way to get some healthy exercise.

Your views on allocations

Oak Hill Court

Waltham Forest Council has decided to update its Housing Allocations Scheme, and we need your views.

The scheme sets out how we allocate social rented housing (Council and housing association homes).

Our review will focus on:

  • Who is eligible to be on the Housing Register
  • Who gets priority for housing on the Housing Register
  • Making the system simpler to understand.

You can make your views known by completing our survey before midnight on Thursday 19 December 2019.
