Have a High Street ADVENTure on Small Business Saturday

High Street Adventures 2019 poster

On the evening of Small Business Saturday 7 December 2019 local artists, musicians, poets, writers, dancers and community groups are coming together to help residents and visitors celebrate, explore and enjoy the many cultures represented on Walthamstow’s vibrant and diverse High Street.

The event will be launched in the Town Square at 4pm with an “al fresco dining room” and the opportunity to sample food from local restaurants and cafes.

Bring your family and friends on an evening of discovery. Printed programmes will be available on the night.

Free events along and around the High Street will include a West African Fanal Lantern procession, Origami workshops, a Giant Hopscotch, a heritage walking tour, cartoon workshop, printing of your own gift wrap with South Asian motifs, live music from around the world and much more.

Walthamstow High Street has been selected by the Greater London Authority as London’s first Night Time Enterprise Zone. The event is being produced by Artillery and is supported with funding from The Mayor of London, Waltham Forest Council and with in-kind support from our project partners at CRATE St James Street, St James Street Big Local Resident Group, The Mill Community Space and The Mall.

Share your views on Walthamstow High Street after 6pm

Walthamstow High Street by night

As part of the Walthamstow High Street Night Time Enterprise Pilot project the Council is asking local communities and businesses how to boost the town centre, encourage a more diverse range of evening activities and improve overall perceptions after 6pm.

We are encouraging people to have their say on how to improve Walthamstow High Street to work better for them after 6pm, through a five-minute online survey.

Share your views

The results help us see how we can support local organisations and businesses to stay open later into the evening and improve access to shops and services after 6pm.

Osborne Mews development moves a step closer

Osborne Mews Walthamstow

Proposals to build new homes in Osborne Mews, off Walthamstow High Street, have moved a step closer after the Council's Cabinet agreed to buy some neighbouring properties.

The site is currently partly owned by Waltham Forest Council and at a Cabinet meeting on Thursday 7 November 2019 it was agreed to spend up to £2.14 million to buy the adjacent properties of 12 Palmerston Road and 1 Osborne Mews.

This acquisition, which is subject to contracts being finalised with the relevant landowners and tenants, will enable the Council to deliver a range of one, two and three bedroom apartments of both private and affordable tenure on the combined development site.

There will be engagement meetings for residents and businesses as the scheme progresses.
