Sixth Form students paint hoardings for London Borough of Culture E17 Art Trail

The Chain Leyton Sixth Form College hoardings

The Mayor of Waltham Forest, Councillor Christopher Robbins CBE, celebrated the borough’s creative talent on Friday 7 June, unveiling artwork designed by local students at L&Q’s exciting new housing development, The Chain in Brunner Road, Walthamstow.

L&Q is building 518 one, two and three-bedroom apartments alongside a new community park at The Chain, with 51 per cent of the new homes (264 apartments) affordable and offered to people living and working in the borough before anyone else.

Created by 13 art and design students from Leyton Sixth Form College, the artwork will enliven the site’s hoardings while the new homes are being built.

Connecting Crate St James Street to the electricity network can only be done at weekends and has faced some delays.

That has meant a generator has been used on site until the connection is completed. Noise and disturbance from the generator has been kept to a minimum by putting it in a carefully chosen place and only running it when needed.

Crate St James Street apologises for any inconvenience caused.

UK Power Networks has said the work should be completed by Friday 21 June 2019.

Design guide will create harmonious neighbourhood

Later this summer the Council will be running a consultation on a proposed St James’ Quarter Public Realm Design Guide which will provide developers with advice on how we want the area to look in the future.

The guide will include advice on advice on improving the key north-south and east-west pedestrian and cycle links through the site, setting out how we are designing a consistent public realm that delivers an inspiring place for the benefit of existing and future communities.

Before we finalise the guide we will be asking residents, community groups and businesses for their views on the proposals so keep an eye open for the online consultation and the drop-in meetings we will be holding.
