COVID-19 firebreak update

Further to our email to you on Tuesday (20th October), we can now provide you with an update in relation to the COVID-19 firebreak following publication of the latest regulations announced by Welsh Government.

Please be advised that this is HIW’s interpretation of the regulations and that any final decision on whether an establishment is entitled to stay open will need to be taken by an enforcement officer as prescribed Part 5 of the regulations, namely the police or a designated officer from your local authority.

Laser / IPL providers:

Services that provide cosmetic treatments only will be required to close for the firebreak period as per reference to the list of businesses required to close (e.g. hairdressers, beauticians and tattooists) within Schedule 1, Part 1 of the regulations.

Services that provide non-cosmetic laser / IPL treatment to patients for medical reasons are permitted to remain open but are only permitted to provide medical treatment for illness or injury.

Independent Clinics, independent medical agencies and Independent Hospitals providing listed services or using prescribed techniques:

Services, including laser eye clinics, who provide healthcare services to patients are permitted to remain open throughout the firebreak period.

All services that are permitted to remain open should restrict appointments to an essential only basis and must adhere to all relevant preventative measures and guidelines to reduce the risk of transmission to staff and patients.

These regulations will be in effect from 18.00 (6pm) on Friday 23 October until 00.01 Monday 9 November. We will write to all services again if we have an updated position following this firebreak period.
