Welcome to the fourth edition of the Fisheries and Brexit Bulletin. As the UK prepares to leave the EU, it is a time of great change and uncertainty for the fishing industry.
The Minister for the Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths AM said;
“The fishing industry needs to start preparing for a no-deal Brexit so they can continue to import and export fish and fish products once the UK leaves the EU”
We intend this bulletin will;
- Help you understand the implications of Brexit on the fishing industry in Wales;
- Assist you in preparing your business for 29 March 2019 when we leave the EU;
- Let you know what support is available, to help you and your business make the transition;

The Welsh Government has launched a Business Resilience Fund to help businesses prepare for, and navigate the challenges of Brexit.
The fund, part of the £50m EU Transition Fund, allows businesses in Wales to bid for between £10,000 and £100,000 of Welsh Government funding, to a maximum of half the project cost, to support them as the UK prepares to leave the European Union.
To apply, businesses (including the fishing industry) must:
- Be registered to trade in Wales;
- Register with Business Wales and complete the Brexit Diagnostic Tool on application;
- Be able to demonstrate that the funding will contribute to safeguarding jobs; and
- Have been trading for 12 months or more on the day of application.
