Welcome to the third edition of the Fisheries and Brexit Bulletin. As the UK prepares to leave the EU, it is a time of great change and uncertainty for the fishing industry. We don’t know exactly what the new requirements will be in terms of trade and exporting, but we want this bulletin to
- Help you understand the implications of Brexit on the fishing industry in Wales;
- Assist you in preparing your business;
- Let you know what support is available, to help you and your business make the transition.
This will be a regular bulletin that will give you updated information, please read each edition to stay informed.

Preparing for No Deal
The UK Government has provided a range of guidance documents on how to prepare for Brexit if there is no deal;

If you export to the EU, you need to familiarise yourself with the paperwork you may need to have in place. These could include
Export Catch Certificates;
Export Health Certificates;
Multiple Vessels Schedule, as well as the catch certificate, if the consignment is sourced from more than one vessel;
Export declaration;
Registration with the National Export System (NES).

New ICT system to help you with Export Catch Certificates
A new IT system to process and issue export catch certificates, and other supporting documentation, is being developed to help facilitate trade following EU exit. Exporters will receive full instructions on how to register and use the new system before we leave the EU. Further information will be provided at the roadshows detailed above.
Fisheries and Brexit Roadshows at a location near you
To help prepare for EU Exit, the Welsh Government has arranged the Fisheries and Brexit roadshows. They will share information and help you understand what you will need to do to prepare your business to trade post-Brexit.
Please arrive at 16:30 as sessions will start by 17:00. Sessions will last up to 2 hours. No need to register, just turn up.

Apply for a haulier permit before 18th January 2019
Under current arrangements hauliers must apply to the UK Government for permits for the 2019 calendar year by 11:59pm on Friday 18 January 2019. Guidance is on the UK Government website
