Welcome to the second edition of the Fisheries and Brexit Bulletin. As the UK prepares to leave the EU on 29 March 2019, it is a time of great change and uncertainty for the fishing industry. We still don’t know what the new requirements will be in terms of trade and exporting, but we want this bulletin to:
- Help you understand the implications of Brexit on the fishing industry in Wales;
- Assist you in preparing your business for when we leave the EU;
- Let you know what support is available, to help you and your business make the transition.
This will be a regular bulletin that will give you updated information as the situation becomes clearer, please read each edition to stay informed. Exporting to the EU?
Register with FSA/DEFRA by 12 December 2018
The Food Standards Agency has advised that any companies who wish to export shellfish to the EU after March 29th 2019 should register with FSA/DEFRA.
The last date to register is 12 December 2018. Please email the EU Listings Project Officer - Email: eulistings@food.gov.uk answering the questions in the letter.

Economy Secretary, Ken Skates has announced £7.5m to help Welsh businesses build resilience in order to cope with the challenges of Brexit.
The fund is part of the Welsh Government’s £50m EU Transition Fund, will be used over the next three years to help companies develop the new expertise and processes they will need in order to thrive, post Brexit.
More details on how businesses can apply for their share of this funding will be published in the coming weeks.

Supporting you through Brexit
To help you prepare for EU Exit, the Welsh Government has arranged engagement events to share information and to give you the chance to ask questions.
The dates are;
North Wales: 16th and 17th January
West Wales: 22nd, 23rd, and 24th January
South Wales: 30th and 31st January
