In September and October 2017, we are
running the first trial for the new onscreen test questions for procedural
numeracy and we are inviting schools to participate.
The National Reading and Numeracy Test results
for 2017 are now available for primary and secondary schools to download along
with a guidance for practitioners which may be helpful to use when discussing
test outcomes with parents/carers. Documents also being made available at the
end of this week are the “Calculating the Learners’ Scores” tables, Pupil
Results Sheet template and age-calculator.
We
have produced a short animation to talk parents/carers through the National
Reading and Numeracy Test reports. A link to the animation is included on the
pupil results sheet, but you may wish to share the link on your
school’s website.

Welsh
Government and Show Racism the Red Card have produced 4 brief guides to
appropriate terminology, equality duties, and identifying and reporting a
racist.
Earlier this month the Cabinet Secretary wrote to all schools to raise awareness of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and to remind schools to be vigilant of signs of FGM. The Voices Over Silence campaign fights for cultural change in Wales, by capturing young people’s voices and views on FGM, to support intergenerational conversations within a range of different communities and contexts. Please print, display and share these posters and video within your school community, websites and noticeboards.
You can view the new standards here.

Following last year’s success, the Welsh
Ambulance Services NHS Trust will be visiting primary schools across Wales
during October to promote ‘Shoctober’. A campaign which aims to teach junior
school children life saving skills. Pupils will learn about CPR, recovery
position, defibrillators and how to deal with someone choking. Spaces are
limited.
Why not start the
new school year with refreshed teaching
approaches and book
a FREE Autumn Connecting Classrooms professional learning course? Explore the British
Council’s online spaces to set
up a partnership with a teacher participating in the programme
overseas. You can take your collaboration further by working on a project or
applying for a £3,000 grant to work
together face-to-face.
