Education Secretary Kirsty Williams has recently announced three appointments to a new board that will play a key role in how Wales’ teachers will be trained.
341 schools set to get superfast broadband thanks to £5m of funding
The Digital Competence framework self assessment tool has now been made available with additional functionality. The Professional Learning Needs Tool – renamed to better reflect its purpose – helps practitioners identify areas where they feel confident or need development, and gives Headteachers an overview to inform planning.
School Business Manager collaborative pilots
The Welsh Government is seeking applications by Wednesday 28 June for match funding from LAs wishing to take part in School Business Manager collaborative pilots over a two year period. The pilots will support Head Teachers in clusters of primary schools to more effectively manage their workload and build expertise so Heads can better focus on raising standards.

The draft Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) Framework
for Action consultation

Centres, learners, and other stakeholders have just
two weeks left to take part in a consultation on Qualifications Wales’s
regulatory outcomes and the mapping of Conditions. This work helps ensure their
regulatory activities focus on learners and the qualification system in Wales.
The Education Workforce Council are looking for a number of talented and conscientious committee members to join the ‘Board’, Chaired by Professor John Furlong OBE, that is now responsible for accrediting all programmes of Initial Teacher Education (ITE), leading to Qualified Teacher Status, in Wales.
The Education Workforce Council is contacting schools and colleges to collect data on SENCOs. Welsh Government will use this information to plan for the proposed Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal Bill (ALNET) and associated ALN Transformation Programme. SENCos/headteachers are asked to respond to EWC by 21/7/2017.

A Home Recycling Challenge, running throughout the Summer, invites Welsh primary schools to encourage their pupils to become recycling heroes, whilst also being in with a chance to win prizes! The challenge run by our delivery partners Recycle for Wales and Wastebuster was launched by TV presenter’s Gethin Jones and Maddie Moate.
