Literacy and numeracy – your questions answered 

This information document is to support schools and settings by answering key questions on the National Literacy and Numeracy Framework (LNF) and National Reading and Numeracy Tests (NRNT).

Reporting on the National Literacy and Numeracy Framework is changing

With immediate effect schools are only expected to produce an annual narrative report for parents/carers based on the LNF in:

  • English, Welsh and maths at Key stages 2 and 3
  • Language, Literacy and Communication Skills and Mathematical Development in the Foundation Phase.

This change will be for all schools.

National reading and Numeracy tests

Welsh National Tests Data Collection

The final deadline for uploading data is 7 June, or by the date set by your local authority/consortium.

Headteacher's Declaration

The declaration for 2017 must be signed and submitted to the relevant consortium by the 16 June.

The School as a Learning Organisation – Nation-wide Study

The purpose of the study, a partnership between Welsh Government and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development OECD, is developing a professional learning culture within and across our schools, to support the transition to the new curriculum.  If your school is invited to complete the short survey launching next month, we would welcome your engagement and open and honest feedback.

Unique opportunity for UK science teachers to visit CERN

This experience will engage students and inspire science lessons.

This course includes a  3.5 day learning visit to CERN in Geneva from the 12 - 15 December 2017. There is an ENTHUSE award of £1,200 available for this event- please click HERE for more information.

The Awards celebrate the achievements of learners, employers and work-based learning practitioners who have excelled in contributing to the Welsh Government's Apprenticeship Programme. The closing date for applications is 12pm on 23 June 2017.

    Give young people the skills to thrive in the 21st century

    The British Council offers a free learning journey to help teachers develop their practice through international collaboration. Participants in Connecting Classrooms benefit from fully-funded core skills training courses, access to an international network of like-minded teachers and £3,000 grants to visit partner schools overseas.
