External Verification and Cluster Moderation arrangements this academic year

Kirsty Williams, Cabinet Secretary for Education issued a Statement on the outcomes and early termination of the External Verification programme after two years of successful operation.

Cluster moderation became a statutory requirement in September 2015 and all schools in Wales need to participate in cluster moderation arrangements at Key Stages 2 and 3.

Evaluation of Fixed Penalty Notices issued for regular non-attendance at school

You may be contacted to help assess how the Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) policy on school attendance is being implemented across Wales. The evaluation will run from 10 April to 31 July 2017.

We have commissioned ICF Consulting Ltd and Arad Research to evaluate the implementation of FPNs.

The UK Government are holding a consultation on emergency adrenaline auto-injectors in schools at the below links. This affects schools in Wales and we would encourage your views. The consultation ends tomorrow, 5 May 2017.

Enterprise Troopers Competition Deadline Extended to 8 May

The closing date for entries for this year’s Enterprise Troopers National Primary School Competition has been extended to 8 May 2017.

All enterprise activity you’ve done since January 2016 is eligible  Pupils learn enterprise skills such as teamwork and creativity and develops literacy and numeracy, digital skills and softer skills like problem solving. 

Fully-funded professional learning opportunity for teachers

Connecting Classrooms provides teachers with professional learning courses to help equip students with some of the skills needed to prosper in a globalised society (also known as ‘core’ or ‘wider’ skills). Two training courses are delivered in Welsh or English across Wales by the British Council’s approved provider; Think, Learn, Challenge. Watch the Connecting Classrooms video clip.

'Professionally Speaking' 2017 

Cardiff City Hall, 8 May 2017

Education Workforce Council have invited the Wales' four commissioners to speak on the future of Welsh education and the roles they can play in shaping Welsh education policy. Speaking on stage are Sally Holland, Children's Commissioner for Wales; Sophie Howe, Future Generations Commissioner; Meri Huws, Welsh Language Commissioner and Sarah Rochira, Older People's Commissioner for Wales.
