Glastir Woodland Creation

Expression of Interest Window closes 1 May 2017.

The Glastir Woodland Creation scheme provides financial support for new planting.  Financial support is also available for planting trees in areas that continue to be grazed as part of an Agroforestry system i.e combining agriculture and forestry.

Farm Business Grant Scheme

The first Expression of Interest window will open on 2nd May 2017. 

The Farm Business Grant is designed to help farmers in Wales to improve the economic and environmental performance of their agricultural holdings, and provides a 40% contribution towards capital investments in equipment and machinery that have been pre-identified as offering clear and quantifiable benefits to farm enterprises.

EU funding boost an Epic start to Easter 

As Wales’ tourism industry geared up for the Easter weekend, the Economy Secretary, Ken Skates has announced that more than £24 million will be available for the development and marketing of tourism through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014 -2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and Welsh Government.

New Dyfi Biosphere website and development project launched 

The UNESCO Dyfi Biosphere has a new face, whose job over the next two years is to inspire and support the development of relevant community actions. These will be based on the unique characteristics of the internationally-recognised status of the Biosffer Dyfi Biosphere area and community.

Cletwr Café present at the ‘Villages and small towns as catalysts for rural development – challenges and opportunities’ event. 

Nigel Callaghan, Chair of Cwmni Cletwr, the community group who run the Cletwr Shop, Café and Community Hub in Tre’r Ddôl, mid-way between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth, recently visited Brussels to talk to an EU committee about the work of the group and its impact on the community.

LEADER programme awards more than £600,000 for local projects

The LEADER programme, which aims to support the regeneration of rural Carmarthenshire, is providing financial support to 16 local projects, taking the total awarded from the 2014-2020 programme to over £600K.

To this end, we’re calling out for Welsh speaking volunteers, passionate about our area to join Bridgend Ambassadors, and train up in readiness to offer a warm welcome and local information service to visitors to the Eisteddfod.

Changes to Agricultural Wages in Wales from 1 April 2017

On 1 April 2017, the UK National Minimum Wage and UK National Living Wage rates changed. As a result, increased rates came into force for some agricultural workers in Wales. The affected grades and the new hourly rates from 1 April are: 

Grade 1:  25 and over: £7.50, Grade 1:  21-24: £7.05, Grade 1:  16-20: £6.72

Grade 2: (aged 25 and over): £7.50.  Further information on all other categories and grades of workers is available on the Welsh Government website.

Public consultation in relation to the review of Ireland’s Nitrates Action Programme was launched on the 2nd March 2017. The Nitrates Action Programme aims to protect water quality from pollution by agricultural sources and to promote the use of good farming practice.

Spreading the agri-word across Europe

The main goal of the EIP-AGRI network is to build bridges, exchange knowledge and connect people. That is why the EIP-AGRI Service Point creates publications to keep network members posted on EIP-AGRI events, opportunities for funding and collaboration, and innovative ideas that can inspire.
