Documents to
support the reporting of National Test results, including the “Calculating the
Learners Scores” tables, Pupil Results Sheet template and age-calculator are
now available on Learning Wales.

We have
produced a short animation to talk parents and carers through the National Reading
and Numeracy Test reports. A link to the animation is included on the pupil
results sheet, but you may wish to share this link on your school’s
website for parents and carers.

Pupils entering Year 7 of maintained secondary schools in Wales in the 2016/17 school year who are eligible for free school meals will be eligible for the school uniform grant; as will pupils in special schools, special needs resource bases and pupil referral units in Wales who are aged 11 at the start of the 2016/17 school year and who are eligible for free school meals.

Copies of the updated guide have now been sent
to Primary Schools for learners in Year 6 to hand out to parents and carers
prior to them leaving at the end of term.
All secondary schools should have by now
received reference copies of the guide.

STEM
in Ed free event - Wednesday 7
September, Swansea
Meet educators from across Wales and the UK to explore the latest
innovative ideas and resources in STEM education. Join the British Science
Association at their annual celebratory ‘STEM in Ed’ evening at the National
Waterfront Museum, Swansea. A great opportunity to meet teachers, activity
providers and STEM Ambassadors; register for free here
A new INSET
day training module has been developed to support practitioners and schools
when using arts, culture and heritage to mitigate the effects of deprivation.
Module 1 provides a brief overview of the major themes. It is the first of 4
modules to be published and available for use.
This is a response to Estyn’s report on education other than
at school.
The Learning Exchange – Available in
September
The Education Workforce Council (EWC) on behalf of the Welsh Government
has recently completed work on the development of a Learning Exchange which
will provide details of regional, national and international professional
learning opportunities for STEM, Computing and ICT subject areas. The
Learning Exchange will be available via the EWC website from September 2016
onwards
As a result of recent changes
to GCSE, AS and A level specifications, Welsh Government has awarded a grant of
up to £1million to WJEC over a period of two years (2016-18) to manage the
provision of Welsh medium resources to support these qualifications
Meic is the national
information, advice and advocacy helpline for children and young people (0-25)
in Wales. Since Meic was set up in 2011, it has dealt with
nearly 30,000 contacts, covering a wide range of issues from exam stress to
bullying, depression to eating disorders, and much more. Watch video
To help schools that want to develop pupils’ thinking about
global development ideas, the Global
Learning Programme-Wales is providing free bilingual classroom resources linked to
the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and Paralympics which begin on 5th August.
GLP-W is
pleased to offer Global Learning Training on 23 September at Ysgol Maes
y Coed, Bryncoch, Neath, SA10 7TY, with Tracy Edwards, Swiss Cottage School
Development and Resource Centre, Camden.
Particularly relevant for SLD and PMLD schools and
units in mainstream throughout Wales. There will also be an opportunity to join
the GLP-W Special Schools network.
Hwb+ Upgrade
As part of the ongoing developments of schools Hwb+ sites, all 1600+ school sites in Wales will be upgraded over the Summer holidays
The upgrade will see the entire Hwb+ platform, including public facing websites, migrated from the current SharePoint 2010 infrastructure to SharePoint 2013.
As this is a whole platform upgrade all Hwb+ sites will remain accessible but in read only mode from 22 July.
All migrated sites and content will be released by 1 September.
