National Test Results 2016
The National
Reading and Numeracy Test results are now available for secondary, middle and special
schools to download.

Documents to support the reporting of National Test
results, including the “Calculating the Learners Scores” tables, Pupil Results
Sheet template and age-calculator are now available on Learning Wales.

We have
produced a short animation to talk parents/carers through the National Reading
and Numeracy Test reports. A link to the animation is included on the pupil
results sheet, but you may wish to share the link or embed the film to your school’s
website.

National Tests 2017
The dates for the 2017 National Tests have been set as follows:

Secondary Schools: 26 April – 10 May 2017

Primary Schools: 3 – 10 May 2017

Middle Schools: 26 April – 10 May 2017

‘All 22 local
authorities submitted notifications of term dates they propose to set for
2017/18. Information was also received on behalf of 127 VA and foundation
schools; this was a significant increase on the 81 submitted the previous
year…’
All
secondary schools will receive reference copies of the parents’ guide this
week. Why not upload or share a link of
the parents and carers’ guide in PDF on your school website? The guide is full of useful information
covering the school setting and gives parents and carers some ideas about how
to help their children and explain how their progress will be measured and
reported. For additional bilingual reference copies, please contact epscomms@wales.gsi.gov.uk
The Ministry of Defence is inviting applications for 2017-18 from schools with service children whose parents experience frequent mobility and deployment. Application deadline is 30 September 2016.
This is the last year of the fund which is open to all maintained schools across the UK.

Government is to consult on proposals to provide governing bodies with
flexibility to appoint governors with the skills they need to be effective and
to determine their constitution to meet their specific needs. ‘School
governing bodies are vital to the success of our schools. They set the
strategic direction for the school, and hold the head teacher to account for

Blogging
in Hwb+
Planning a
school trip this term? Why not encourage your pupils to use Hwb+ to blog about
their experiences?
Pupils can
write blogs and post them on your school’s Hwb+ public website to keep their
parents up to date with what they’ve been getting up to. Alternatively, blogs
can be posted on class, subject or year sites in Hwb+ and used as discussion
points when you return to the classroom. For more ideas on using blogs, see the

Thinking
about how to embed the Wider Skills or new Digital Competence Framework in your
teaching?
The British
Council offers two funded CPD courses across Wales: Critical Thinking and
Problem Solving and Digital Competence. Available in Welsh or English,
participant teachers can also apply for £3,000 to carry out international study

national survey of modern foreign language (MFL) teaching in Welsh secondary
