Cabinet Secretary visits the Royal Welsh Show

The Cabinet Secretary had a very busy few days at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show in Builth Wells last week where she met with a number of key stakeholders and organisations. See what she got up to here

Wales’s landmark Environment Act comes into force

Parts 1, 2, 5 and some sections of part 7 of the Environment (Wales) Act 2016 came into force on 21 May, two months after Royal Assent. The other parts and sections of the Act will require commencement orders for them to come into force. Find out more

Wales leads the UK with 100% online CAP payment applications

Figures reveal the first ‘online-only’ CAP Single Application Form (SAF) has been a resounding success, with 16,252 applications received by the 16 May deadline. The SAF is used by farmers to claim their CAP Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) and land-based rural development payments. Wales is leading the way in the UK as the only home nation to provide a 100% digital approach to these applications. Read more

Environment Secretary welcomes decrease in fuel poverty in Wales

The report by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) has found that fuel poverty levels across all Welsh households have decreased from 29% in 2012 to a projected 23% in 2016. The BRE report suggests the decrease is due to a combination of rising household incomes, a reduction in household energy consumption due to energy efficiency improvements, and decreasing gas and oil prices. Natural Resources Wales – Carbon Positive Project

With the ground breaking Well-Being of Future Generations and Environment Acts now in place to provide Wales with the legislation to effectively tackle climate change, we are now focussed on driving forward implementation of the Carbon Positive Project. The project will evaluate NRW’s net carbon status, accounting for both greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration across the whole of the NRW managed estate. Read more

£5.75m to help improve recycling services across Wales

The Cabinet Secretary has announced £5.75m to help Local Authorities implement improvements in recycling services. The funding will allow local authorities to invest in equipment such as recycling vehicles, make improvements to collections and depot facilities and enable them to improve their rates of recycling. Could you be recycling more?

Research into what we throw away has found a quarter of our black bag waste is made up of food and another quarter of potentially recyclable material. The announcement was made as part of the Cabinet Secretary's Oral Statement on building on our Recycling Success for a Circular Economy.

As part of Food Safety Week, the Cabinet Secretary visited the ZERO2FIVE Food Industry Centre at Cardiff Metropolitan University to learn how families in Wales can reduce their food waste and save money by making better use of their freezers. Read more

New online tool launched to help people reduce food waste and save money

Our delivery partners, Love Food Hate Waste (LFHW), have created the 'Your Food Waste Assistant' which offers an easy way to help you reduce food waste and save money. It has information on how to save and store over 600 food products, as well as some great recipe ideas.

Fareshare celebrates 5th birthday

Fareshare, an organisation dedicated to taking food that would otherwise go to waste to provide meals to those in need, have celebrated their 5th anniversary. The Cabinet Secretary visited them on this special occasion to see their valuable work in action and to meet the volunteers.

Confused about how to wash certain items of clothing? You're not alone! Around a third of the UK are no longer wearing certain items of clothing as they are unsure of the care label instructions. Love Your Clothes have produced a series of posters to help - Drying and Ironing, Professional Cleaning, Washing and Bleaching
