Early Years Pupil Deprivation Grant – allocation mechanism evaluation

The Welsh Government recently commissioned an independent report, evaluating the allocation mechanism of the Early Years Pupil Deprivation Grant (EYPDG), which was conducted by the local government data unit.  Results of the review did not identify any fundamental issues with the current allocation method, however small potential improvements were recommended.

Adoption UK is calling on all adoptive parents in Wales to let their children’s schools know about a guide to working with adopted children and their families.

NEW Family Guide to Pori Drwy Stori

All schools receive their Pori Drwy Stori resources from the 20th June, including a brand new resource for families.  Give these to new families at the pre-Reception meeting as an opportunity to introduce Pori Drwy Stori as a fun way for parents to engage in their child’s learning over the year.

The Education and Public Services Group are inviting nominations for the Queen’s Birthday 2017 Honours list.  If you know of any deserving people who work in the Education, Local Government, Communities, Tackling Poverty, Housing and Regeneration sectors who have demonstrated exceptional achievement or service, then please submit your nomination by 29 July 2016. FIRST LEGO League

FIRST LEGO League challenges children to think like scientists and engineers. They will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game. Registration opens on 17 May.

BMCS grants for chemistry clubs

Can be made by a teacher at a primary or secondary school for sums up to £1,000. Applications from existing chemistry clubs looking to expand/ enhance activities would be welcome as would those from colleagues interested in starting a club. Preparing for the year 6-7 transition using Hwb+

Using Hwb+ to prepare year 6 pupils for their transition to secondary school:

  • Create a new class site and give access to year 6 and 7 pupils
  • Set a task for year 7 pupils to blog about their transition experience 
  • Encourage year 6 pupils to interact by commenting on these blogs
  • Upload secondary school maps, subject information and teacher biographies to the class site
  • Set up a Hwb Network for teachers to share transition ideas

S4C

Côr Cymru 2017 Competition

S4C is proud to announce Côr Cymru 2017 - the competition with a first prize of £4,000. 

There are five categories:

  • Children’s Choirs 16 years of age and under
  • Youth Choirs under 25
  • Mixed, Female and Male Voice Choirs

The semi-final rounds will be held between February 17th – 19th  2017, and the final on Sunday, April 9th 2017 at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre.
