Headteacher's Declaration

Once the last test for the testing cycle has been administered, the headteacher must sign confirming that all guidelines were followed. The declaration for 2016 must be signed and submitted to the relevant consortium by the 16 June 2016.

National Reading & Numeracy Tests Diagnostic Support Tools

The diagnostic support tools for the national reading and numeracy tests are now available. These tools will support teachers’ analysis of the national test results for their pupils and will map performance to the National Literacy and Numeracy Framework.

Welsh National Tests Data Collection

The final deadline for uploading data is 7 June 2016, or by the date set by your local authority/consortium.

Checklist for newly arrived asylum  and refugee pupils

The Prime Minister has announced the UK will resettle 20,000 Syrians in need of protection.  Approximately 50 Syrian children arrived in Wales before Christmas. Schools will need to be welcoming and ensure appropriate access to trained staff to enable early integration. This will be essential to ensure schools can provide an inclusive environment with appropriate support.  Building on work produced by Newport Local Authority, Welsh Government have put together the attached checklist to help schools.

Post-16 Updates

Final deadline for confirmation of Key Stage 4 and 16-18 Local Curriculum Offers for 2016/17

The final deadline for schools and FE colleges to upload their Key Stage 4 and 16-18 local curriculum offer course information onto Careers Wales Online has been extended. Please ensure that this process is completed and all local curriculum offers have been confirmed by 27 May using The Careers Wales Online system.

Apprenticeship awards Cymru 2016

The hunt is on to find the star learners, employers and learning providers involved in the delivery of a raft of successful learning programmes across Wales.

Applications for this year’s prestigious Apprenticeship Awards Cymru are now being invited by joint organisers the Welsh Government and the National Training Federation for Wales (NTfW).

FIRST LEGO League

FIRST LEGO League challenges children to think like scientists and engineers. They will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game. Registration opens on 17 May.

Schools Aerospace Challenge

This is a unique opportunity for a team of students aged 16-18 to win a place on a free five night residential course at the School of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing, Carnfield University starting on 24 July 2016.  For more information and to register click here.  Deadline 1 June 2016.

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and the Institute of Physics (IoP)

The scheme provides schools and colleges with grants of up to £500 for projects or events linked to the teaching or promotion of physics or engineering. The deadline for the autumn term is 1 June 2016.

Why should children and Young People Contact Meic 

Meic is the national information, advice and advocacy helpline for children and young people (0-25) in Wales.  Since Meic was set up in 2011, it has dealt with nearly 30,000 contacts, covering a wide range of issues from exam stress to bullying, depression to eating disorders, and much more.
