Farming Connect - Skills and Mentoring programme

EOI Window Closes 29 April 2016

Through our Skills and Mentoring programme, eligible individuals registered with Farming Connect can access up to 80% funding for completing short accredited training courses in key areas.

Glastir Woodland Restoration

EOI Window Closes 29 April 2016

Funding is available to replant areas of larch that have been felled to prevent the spread of the Phytophthora ramorum disease affecting the trees.

Glastir Woodland Creation

EOI Window Closes 29 April 2016

The Glastir Woodland Creation Scheme provides financial support for new planting. Financial support is also available for planting trees in areas that continue to be grazed as part of an Agroforestry system i.e combining agriculture and forestry.

Glastir Woodland Element Up-take Survey

Glastir Woodland Schemes were introduced to replace in part the Better Woodlands for Wales (BWW) Scheme and are part of the wider Glastir management plan. This report studies the up-take of Glastir Woodland Schemes within the previous Rural Development Plan.

Wild Forest Products Fair

On 27 May 2016, Llais Y Goedwig and Wild Resources Ltd will be hosting the first ever Wild Forest Products Fair at Glynllifon Country Park near Caernarfon. Over the past three years Llais y Goedwig have been part of the Startree project which researches how we utilise the resources of our forests and woodlands for the benefit of communities, individuals and small enterprises. The project compares practices in Wales with other European countries to help stimulate interest in the sustainable use of forest resources for generating income in rural areas. The fair will showcase the work of the Startree project.

In Greece, a project has found that adding aromatic plants such as oregano, sage and rosemary to sheep feed has a number of benefits. The sheep are healthier and the anti-oxidant properties of the meat are improved, giving it a longer shelf life.
