Make sure you are registered to vote

All you need is 5 minutes and your National Insurance number to register to vote in the General Election.

People have until 26 November to register to vote in the upcoming election if they are not already registered.

Everyone who is registered and eligible to vote will receive a poll card by Friday 22 November. If you have not received your poll card by that date it may mean you are not registered.

Registering to vote can be done quickly and easily online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Remember to have your National Insurance number to hand before you start.

If you are already registered to vote you don’t need to register again. 


Easy read guide helps people with learning disabilities to vote

Mencap elections

An easy read guide for voters with a learning disability has been made available by the Electoral Commission and Mencap, a charity which works with people with a learning disability.

The accessible guide has been designed to help those with a learning disability understand how to register and vote in the election on 12 December.


Useful information for students

To take part in this election students will need to be registered to vote. 

The deadline to register is 26 November and you can register at both home and university – but you can only vote once.

If you want to vote somewhere else from where you are currently (for example you can vote at your university address if you'll be at home) you can apply for a postal vote.
