Crowds welcomed The King and The Queen Consort to Tower Hamlets yesterday as part of a visit to honour the borough’s Bangladeshi community.The visit was organised by the British Bangladeshi Power and Inspiration (BBPI) working with Tower Hamlets Council and Tower Hamlets Police.

National Apprenticeship Week 2023

This week is National Apprenticeship Week, an annual event that celebrates the positive impact apprenticeships make to communities, businesses, and the wider economy.

With our local business partners, we are launching a host of apprenticeships ranging from finance to construction.These will launch on Friday 10 February, and you will need to be registered to our WorkPath service to apply; WorkPath will also be able to support you with your application, interview preparation, and general employment support.

One of few boroughs "improving" according to residents

Data company YouGov asked people living in the areas that have been targeted by the government’s Levelling Up funding whether they thought their area had improved, stayed the same, or declined, since the funding.

Residents in only four places in the country responded that their town was better – and one of those was Tower Hamlets, where 34 per cent of residents said they thought the borough had improved.

Free market parking and changes to residential parking

New parking rules which will help boost the local economy and make it easier to get around the borough have come into effect.

We have introduced one-hour free parking at its nine markets to encourage more people to use this important local economy.

Alongside this, the council is also changing resident parking in the borough. Instead of having a number of small parking zones, those with resident parking permits will be able to park in one of four larger areas for free.

Last chance to have your say on Liveable Streets schemes

The Old Bethnal Green and Weavers public consultations on Liveable Streets will be closing at 11:59pm on Sunday, 12 February 2023.

The Brick Lane Liveable Streets consultation is open until 11:59pm on Sunday, 19 February 2023

Everyone is able to participate, however, consultation leaflets and surveys have been sent to all local addresses within scheme areas with a reference code. Local residents and businesses can use their reference code on both the online responses and the mailed paper copy of the survey.
