What is Young WorkPath?

Young WorkPath is an innovative, coordinated approach that brings together the expertise of Tower Hamlets Careers Service with that of the WorkPath employment brokerage team.

We work with local young people aged between 13 and 19, or up to age 25 for those who have a special educational need or disability (SEND). We provide information, advice and guidance about education and career pathways. We support young people who are NEET (not in employment, education or training) into positive outcomes.

We are based at the Young WorkPath centre in Watney Market. Our careers advisers also work in local secondary schools, New City College and other community organisations in the borough. To find out more, check out our webpage.

Coronavirus update

The Young WorkPath office remains closed to the public until further notice.

Despite school and college closures, our team is continuing to provide careers interviews over the phone.

Careers Advisers are working closely with Careers Coordinators and SENCO’s to identify pupils who are risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training) to ensure they know their options after year 11/12/13 and to support them with their next steps.

For young people, parents or carers wishing to book a telephone appointment, please contact us at youngworkpath@towerhamlets.gov.uk or on 0800 3581 2410 (free phone) or 0207 364 1401.

Woman providing support over the phone

What have we been up to?

We continue to provide careers guidance and employability support to young people in schools, colleges and those who are currently NEET. Our advisers are working hard to ensure young people are applying for appropriate courses, apprenticeships, jobs and training.

A great example is the following recent quote from a young person regarding the support he received from one of our Apprenticeship and Employment Advisers:

“The support I have received from my adviser when applying to apprenticeships was the best support I have ever had. My adviser has really managed to simplify the best structure to use when applying to apprenticeships. To sum up the experience I had, I would describe it as if I was piloting an aeroplane and my adviser was the co-pilot ensuring that I didn’t crash. She has helped me to think of the different ways I have developed skills over the years and put them into perspective, this then allowed me to fill in apprenticeship application confidently and only after a few weeks my application has been accepted, and I now have been given an interview.”

GCSEs and A-levels results days

We will still be available at youngworkpath@towerhamlets.gov.uk or on 0800 3581 2410 (free phone) or 0207 364 1401 on both results days: 13 August for A-levels and 20 August for GCSEs. We expect to be very busy, so please do be patient if contacting us. We will also be sending leaflets to schools beforehand for you to distribute to your students.

We wish all students the best with their results!

Schools' statutory responsibility for providing IAG to pupils

Every school must ensure that pupils are provided with independent careers guidance from year 8 - year 13. To support schools with this additional services can be purchased from Young WorkPath. You can discuss your needs with your link Careers Adviser or contact Martha Barden, Team Manager on 0207 364 6133 or at martha.barden@towerhamlets.gov.uk.

Please let us know if you wish to buy any services by the end of July.

September Guarantee

Every year, we undertake the huge task of finding out offers of an appropriate place in education or training made to year 11 and 12 pupils in the borough for September coming. This is something the Department for Education (DfE) requires us to do. Thank you to schools who have provided us with the data, for schools still working on their data we would be grateful if you could get this to us by 22 July 2020. Please send data to Cheryl Toms, Team Leader at cheryl.toms@towerhamlets.gov.uk.
