With just weeks to go until the end of the academic year, are you already concerned about the cost of buying new school uniform for September?
If so, then come along to Torfaen Council’s first-ever FREE uniform shop and swap event on Friday 15 July, 11am - 3pm, at the Congress Theatre in Cwmbran.
As well as good quality, pre-loved uniforms, there will be PE kits, coats, bags, shoes and stationery free of charge. There will also be the opportunity to bring items your children have grown out of to swap for larger sizes.
If you would like to donate items to the school shop, please take them to the following locations:
North Torfaen
- Circulate – Unit 14, Gilchrist Thomas Industrial Estate, Blaenavon. Monday to Friday 9am - 4.30pm.
- Citizens Advice Portland Buildings Commercial Street Pontypool Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 4.30pm
- Garnsychan Partnership - 55 Stanley Rd, Garndiffaith, Abersychan, Pontypool Monday to Friday 9am - 4.30pm
- Trac 2 - Shop 2, Church Ave, Trevethin, Pontypool Monday to Friday, 9am - 4pm and Saturday morning 9am - 2pm
- Eastern Valley Food Bank Unit 5 Pavillion Industrial Est, Pontnewynydd, NP4 0NF Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, 9am - 1pm.
- Hill City Church, Freehold land road, Pontypool NP4 8PA Monday 10am – 12pm and Wednesday 1pm - 3pm.
South Torfaen
- Tasty Not Wasty - Llanyrafon Methodist Church (please check opening times before dropping off)
- Cwmbran Library – with the Communities for Work team Thursday 23/30 June/7 July, 1pm – 3pm.
- Powerstation, Blenheim Rd, St Dials Cwmbran NP44 4SY Monday to Friday, 9am - 4pm.
- Disability Advice Project - 9a Avondale Business Park, Cwmbran NP44 1UG Monday to Friday 10am - 4pm
All items donated need to be in good, clean condition and must be delivered to a drop off point by Thursday 7 July 2022.
Torfaen Executive Member for Adult Services & Housing, Councillor David Daniels, said:
“I really hope that parents take up the opportunity to attend our first ever school uniform swap and shop event, which aims to help alleviate some of the pressures on household finances as we approach the autumn term.”
“To really make a success of this event, we hope that people come forward and donate their pre-loved items at our various drop off points across the borough.”
“Reusing items is a great way of helping to tackle climate change because it reduces the amount of water and carbon produced by making and transporting new clothes and reduces the amount of clothing that ends up in landfill. It is more sustainable economically and environmentally."
The event follows a series of Caring About the Cost-of-Living Roadshows aimed at unpaid carers worried about the rising cost of living.
