Applications for the Winter fuel support scheme are now open
Eligible households will be able to claim a one-off £100 payment to provide support towards paying their on-grid winter fuel bills.
The scheme is open to households where one member is in receipt of working age means-tested welfare benefits;
- Income Support, or
- Income Based Job Seekers Allowance, or
- Income Related Employment & Support Allowance, or
- Universal Credit, or
- Working Tax Credits.
You must have been claiming these benefits at any time between 1 December 2021 and 31 January 2022. Click here to apply
Benefit payments over Christmas and New Year
Some benefits payments will be made earlier if they’re due between 27 December 2021 and 4 January 2022. If your payment date is on a weekend or a bank holiday you’ll usually be paid on the working day before.

The main four weekly Housing Benefit for those not in receipt of Universal Credit will be paid just before Christmas. Free School Meal payments for the entire Christmas holiday period will also be paid before Christmas.

Eastern Valley Food Bank
If you are struggling to put food on the table then please don’t delay and get in touch with your support worker, where you will be given a food voucher.
The Hope centre in Pontypool has now reached capacity and will no longer act as a drop in centre for the collection of food parcels.
Food parcels will instead be distributed from Hillcity Church, Freeholdland Road Pontnewynydd, on Monday's and Wednesday's and from the Salvation Army in Pontypool (Near the entrance to St Alban's school) on Friday's.
All food hubs will be closing down from around the 23 December until 4 January.

Council Tax Reduction and how to apply?
If you would like to apply for Council Tax Reduction, you can complete an online application. Alternatively, you can contact the New Claims Team by emailing benefitapplication@torfaen.gov.uk or call 0300 456 3559
If you are unable to complete an online claim for Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction, we will arrange to complete the claim with you by personal interview at either Cwmbran or Pontypool Customer Centres.
If you have difficulty getting into one of our Torfaen offices, we can visit you to complete the claim. We may need to contact you for additional information and proof of income and capital.
Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP)
If you are struggling to pay your rent, you may be eligible to a Discretionary Housing Payment. Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs) are normally only awarded for a short period, for example 3 months.
If you're already receiving DHP, you should have recently been contacted to either renew your application or receive advise of any further extension. If you are still in need of additional support, please do not ignore your invitation to renew your award.

Coronavirus Self isolation financial support
If you have been contacted by NHS Wales Test, Trace, protect service (TTP) and been told to self-isolate, you may be entitled to financial support.
The self isolation payment only applies to those who have tested positive, or those who are close contacts and are not fully vaccinated. You are still be required to self-isolate for 10 days.

The Citizens Advice state that a letter should be received from bailiffs before they visit your home, to check if you are vulnerable because of coronavirus. They should also follow government guidance on social distancing and shouldn’t take property from your home.

Help with childcare costs for working parents of 3 to 4 year olds
Is your 3 year old child starting nursery education in January 20221, have you checked if you are eligible for the Childcare Offer for Wales?
Eligible parents could claim up to 30 hours of early education (between 10-12.5 hours) and funded wraparound childcare (between 17.5-20 hours), for up to 48 weeks of the year.

The Housing Solution Team focuses on preventing homelessness wherever possible. They also offer specific advice in relation to debt, money management and income maximisation through the Financial Inclusion Service.
The Financial Inclusion Service is an impartial, free, confidential service that can negotiate with your landlord on your behalf, provide court advocacy, liaise with your creditors and offer assistance in relation to other financial difficulties you may be experiencing.

Pre-payment meters
If you are facing financial hardship or struggling to top up meters, you are advised to contact your energy supplier in the first instance to discuss your personal circumstances.

Some energy suppliers offer the Warm Home Discount, which is worth £140. To see if you are eligible for this support, please contact your energy supplier for details or visit the Gov website for more information.

Pension and Disability Benefit claimants to get a Christmas bonus
People who receive pension or disability benefits will receive a tax-free Christmas bonus of £10. The payment will be made before 25 December, and paid directly to customers’ bank or building society.

Attendance Allowance
Attendance Allowance for people over 65, helps with extra costs if you have a disability severe enough to need someone to help look after or help you. You could gain an extra income of £59.70 or £89.15 a week to help with personal support.
The person helping you also may be entitled to Carers Allowance once you have gained the Attendance Allowance. Attendance Allowance is not means tested - what you earn or how much you have in savings will not affect what you are awarded.

Mae Llywodraeth Cymru am ei wneud yn haws i chi ddilyn canllawiau hunan-ynysu os ydych chi’n cael prawf positif neu fod gofyn i chi ynysu gan ein tîm Profi, Olrhain a Diogelu.
Os yw’r tîm wedi cysylltu â chi ac wedi dweud wrthych chi i hunan-ynysu, gallech fod â hawl i gymorth ariannol o hyd at £500 os ydych yn bodloni’r meini prawf. Gellir ôl-dalu’r cymorth ariannol i 23ain Hydref 2020.

Cymorth Treth y Cyngor a rhent
Os ydych chi’n cael trafferth talu Treth y Cyngor, cysylltwch â ni. Gallwn edrych a oes gennych hawl i Ostyngiad Treth y Cyngor (neu Brydiau Ysgol am Ddim Brydiau Ysgol am Ddim os oes gennych blant).
Os ydych chi ar incwm isel neu fudd-daliadau fel Credyd Cynhwysol, efallai gallwn gynnig eich bod yn talu dros ddeuddeg mis er mwyn lleihau eich taliad misol neu ohirio’ch taliadau cychwynnol er mwyn ei wneud yn haws i chi dalu yn nes ymlaen.
Taliadau Tywydd Oer
Efallai y byddwch yn gallu cael Taliad Twyddd Oer os ydych chi’n derbyn rhai budd-daliadau penodol neu Gefnogaeth gyda Llog Morgais.
Byddwch yn cael taliad os cofnodir cyfartaledd y tymheredd yn eich ardal, neu os rhagwelir y bydd y tymheredd yn sero gradd Celsius neu’n is dros gyfnod o 7 diwrnod yn olynol. Byddwch yn derbyn £25 ar gyfer pob cyfnod o 7 diwrnod o dywydd oer iawn rhwng 1 Tachwedd a 31 Mawrth.

Gallai rhieni cymwys hawlio hyd at 30 awr o addysg gynnar (rhwng 10-12.5 awr) a gofal plant cofleidiol wedi'i ariannu (rhwng 17.5-20 awr), am hyd at 48 wythnos y flwyddyn.

Mae’r Tîm Atebion Tai yn canolbwyntio ar rwystro digartrefedd lle bynnag y bo modd. Maent hefyd yn cynnig cyngor penodol mewn perthynas â dyledion, rheoli arian a gwneud y mwyaf o’ch incwm drwy’r Gwasanaeth Cynhwysiant Ariannol.

Bydd pobl sy'n derbyn pensiwn neu fudd-daliadau anabledd yn derbyn bonws Nadolig di-dreth o £10. Gwneir y taliad cyn 25 Rhagfyr, a chaiff ei dalu’n uniongyrchol i fanc neu gymdeithas adeiladu cwsmeriaid.

Mae Lwfans Gweini ar gyfer pobl dros 65 yn helpu gyda chostau ychwanegol os oes gennych anabledd digon difrifol i fod angen rhywun i helpu i ofalu amdanoch. Gallech gael incwm ychwanegol o £59.70 neu £89.15 yr wythnos i helpu gyda chymorth personol.
Efallai hefyd bod y person sy’n eich helpu yn gymwys i dderbyn Lwfans Gofalwyr unwaith y byddwch wedi cael y Lwfans Gweini. Nid yw Lwfans Gweini yn dibynnu ar brawf moddion – ni fydd yr hyn rydych yn ei ennill neu faint sydd gennych mewn cynilion yn effeithio eich dyfarniad.

Welcome to the Christmas edition of our Nifty Thrifty bulletin!
Sometimes the meaning of the festive season gets lost behind the financial worry it causes. If you are struggling financially this Christmas, there is still time for you to get help with food parcels, grants and benefit and debt advice from a range of organisations.
The bulletin also includes information on benefit payment dates to help you budget.
