Close to 100 children from schools across Torfaen have taken part in the Torfaen qualifier for the English Football League Trust (EFLT) Utilita Kids cup at Cwmbran Stadium.
11 primary schools from Torfaen took part in this year's competition which was organised by County in the Community in partnership with Torfaen Sports Development.
A high standard of football was on display from all teams taking part, with St David’s, Greenmeadow, Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbran and George Street Primary Schools all reaching the semi-finals.
This year it was George Street Primary School that went on to lift the Torfaen EFL Kids Cup, beating St David’s in a hard fought final.
All semi-finalists will now go on to represent Torfaen at the Gwent-wide finals on the 29th November at Newport Velodrome 3G.
The schools that win County in the Community’s Gwent wide final will go on to compete in the League 2 South competition at Swindon Town, in the new year.
Ex Cwmbran High, now college pupils Bradley Roberts, Keeley Jones and Ryley Beard ensured that matches ran smoothly by referring games and recording stats.
Sports events like the EFL cup help sixth form and college pupils gain leadership experience as part of their 'coaches of the future' placements and also aids them with their A-level studies.
County in the Community are a registered charity associated with Newport County AFC, working to enhance school sports and promote inclusion across the Gwent region, as well as Literacy, Numeracy and PSHE provision in primary schools.
Dan Harvey from County in the Community, said, “This is our eighth year delivering an EFL Kids Cup competition, along with the other 71 EFL community trusts. We deliver regional qualifying tournaments across Gwent each year, to help take away the financial strain that schools in Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent and Monmouthshire may face when travelling to Newport based tournaments each year.
The support we receive from the Sport Development units in each region is integral in allowing us to carry out these large competitions. With the facility provided by Torfaen Sports Development in partnership with Torfaen Leisure Trust and the officiating from volunteers, it's a huge plus for us and is very much appreciated.“
Jacob Guy, Torfaen Sports Development Officer, said, ‘It’s been a tough and strange 18 months or so, so it’s been great getting the schools outdoors to get involved in school sports again.
We ensured that every bit of guidance and guideline was followed to deliver another successful tournament. A big thank you to all the pupils and school staff for their support and good luck to the four schools representing Torfaen in the Gwent finals’.
Mae bron i 100 o blant o ysgolion ledled Torfaen wedi cymryd rhan yn rownd Torfaen ar gyfer cwpan Plant Utilita Ymddiriedolaeth Cynghrair Pêl-droed Lloegr (EFLT) yn Stadiwm Cwmbrân.
Cymerodd 11 o ysgolion cynradd o Dorfaen ran yng nghystadleuaeth eleni a drefnwyd gan County in the Community mewn partneriaeth â Datblygiad Chwaraeon Torfaen.
Roedd safon uchel o bêl-droed i’w gweld gan yr holl dimau a gymerodd ran, gydag ysgolion Dewi Sant, Greenmeadow, Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân a Stryd Siôr yn cyrraedd y rowndiau cynderfynol.
Eleni, Ysgol Gynradd Stryd Siôr enillodd y Cwpan Plant EFL Torfaen, gan guro Ysgol Dewi Sant mewn rownd derfynol galed.
Bydd y pedair ysgol yn y rownd gynderfynol yn mynd ymlaen i gynrychioli Torfaen yn rowndiau terfynol Gwent ar 29ain Tachwedd yn Velodrome Casnewydd.
Bydd yr ysgol sy’n ennill Rownd Terfynol Gwent County in the Community yn mynd ymlaen i gystadlu yng nghystadleuaeth Cynghrair 2 (De), ar faes Swindon Town, yn y flwyddyn newydd.
Sicrhaodd cyn-ddisgyblion Ysgol Uwchradd Cwmbrân, Bradley Roberts, Keeley Jones a Ryley Beard bod y gemau yn mynd yn rhwydd trwy ddyfarnu y rhan fwyaf o gemau a chofnodi ystadegau.
Mae digwyddiadau fel cwpan EFL yn helpu disgyblion chweched dosbarth a choleg i gael profiad o arwain fel rhan o’u lleoliadau 'hyfforddwyr y dyfodol' ac yn eu cynorthwyo gyda’u hastudiaethau lefel A hefyd.
Elusen sy’n gysylltiedig â Chlwb Pêl-droed Casnewydd yw County in the Community, ac maen nhw’n gweithio i wella chwaraeon mewn ysgolion a hyrwyddo cynhwysiant ledled Gwent, yn ogystal â Llythrennedd, Rhifedd a Darpariaeth PCIE mewn ysgolion cynradd.
Dywedodd Dan Harvey o County in the Community , “Dyma’r wythfed flwyddyn i ni gynnal cystadleuaeth Cwpan Plant EFL, ochr yn ochr â 71 o ymddiriedolaethau EFL cymunedol eraill. Rydym yn darparu twrnameintiau rhagbrofol rhanbarthol ledled Gwent pob blwyddyn, i gymryd i ffwrdd y pwysau ariannol allai fod ar ysgolion Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent a Sir Fynwy wrth deithio i dwrnameintiau yng Nghasnewydd pob blwyddyn.
Mae’r gefnogaeth yr ydym yn ei derbyn gan unedau Datblygu Chwaraeon ym mhob rhanbarth yn allweddol i’n galluogi i gynnal y cystadlaethau mawr yma. Gyda’r cyfleusterau gan Ddatblygiad Chwaraeon Torfaen a’r dyfarnu gan wirfoddolwyr, mae’n fendith i ni ac rydym yn gwerthfawrogi hyn yn fawr.”
Dywedodd Jacob Guy o Ddatblygiad Chwaraeon Torfaen, ‘Mae hi wedi bod yn 18 mis anodd ac annifyr, felly mae’n wych cael yr ysgolion allan yn yr awyr agored ac yn cymryd rhan mewn chwaraeon eto.
Fe wnaethom ni sicrhau ein bod yn dilyn pob cyfarwyddyd er mwyn cael twrnamaint llwyddiannus arall. Diolch yn fawr i’r disgyblion a staff yr ysgolion am eu cefnogaeth a phob lwc i’r 4 ysgol a fydd yn cynrychioli Torfaen yn rowndiau terfynol Gwent’
