Torfaen Council have formed a partnership with the mobile app UDDR to provide businesses and shoppers with an easy to use ‘One Stop Shop’.
Local businesses can use UDDR to digitally market their products and services, whilst residents and customers can use the app to see what is available in their locality.
The Torfaen Council Foundational Economy Project Team, funded by the Welsh Government Foundational Economy Challenge Fund, will be offering a Start-up Marketing Support Grant which will include digital advertising and marketing support for new businesses, tradespeople, and services within the local community.
The locally founded UDDR mobile app will be the key technology partner as the project increases much-needed brand awareness for local businesses and provide a simple and innovative method for residents and customers to find and contact services local to them.
Deputy Minister for Economy and Transport Lee Waters said: “The coronavirus pandemic has affected every one of us, causing enormous challenges in all areas of our lives, but it has also encouraged many of us to support our local towns and highstreets and spend more of our money within our immediate communities.
“We launched our Foundational Economy Challenge Fund because we want our economy to work better for all our communities in Wales, and this project which has brought Torfaen council and mobile app UDDR together, uses innovation and technology to make it even easier for to people to shop and spend locally and support businesses in their area.
“It is a great example of how we can take action to strengthen the foundations of our local economies so we are better placed to adapt and thrive whatever the future holds.”
David Smith, UDDR co-founder added “The idea for the UDDR app originally came about to support small businesses, in particular milk delivery hence the name. We are delighted to be working with Alyson and the Foundational Economy Team and look forward to creating further success stories throughout 2020/21.”
The Start Up Marketing Support Grant led by the Foundational Economy team based in Pontypool will provide funding for Start-up businesses, services and trades to feature on the UDDR mobile app for 12 months with no cost to the businesses that join during this 12 month period.
Executive Member for Economy, Skills & Regeneration, Councillor Joanne Gauden said, “It’s fantastic that we continue to support the ethos of our local Foundational economy by working in close partnership with UDDR to put Torfaen businesses on the map.
We are committed to support local business in helping others, grow the local economy and make a difference to the heart of our community by buying local.
It is important to mention that local businesses can also access a range of support services by visiting the Hyb2 in Pontypool Indoor Market.
The team there can support local businesses to receive business mentoring, social media training and business planning support.”

Mae Cyngor Torfaen wedi ffurfio partneriaeth gyda’r ap symudol, UDDR i gynnig ‘Siop Un Stop’ hawdd ei defnyddio i fusnesau a siopwyr.
Gall busnesau lleol ddefnyddio UDDR i farchnata’u cynnyrch a gwasanaethau’n ddigidol, a gall trigolion a chwsmeriaid ddefnyddio’r ap i weld beth sydd ar gael yn lleol.
Bydd Tîm Prosiect Sylfaenol Cyngor Torfaen, gydag arian gan Lywodraeth Cymru, yn cynnig Grant Cymorth Marchnata Busnesau Cychwynnol a fydd yn cynnwys cefnogaeth hysbysebu digidol a marchnata i fusnesau newydd, masnachwyr a gwasanaethau yn y gymuned leol.
Bydd ap symudol UDDR, a ffurfiwyd yn lleol, yn bartner technoleg wrth i’r prosiect gynyddu ymwybyddiaeth brand i fusnesau lleol a rhoi dull syml ac arloesol i drigolion a chwsmeriaid gael hyd i wasanaethau lleol a chysylltu â nhw.
Dywedodd y Dirprwy Weinidog dros yr Economi a Thrafnidiaeth, Lee Waters: “Mae pandemig y coronafeirws wedi effeithio pob un ohonom ni, gan achosi heriau mawr yn ein bywydau, ond mae wedi annog nifer ohonom ni hefyd i gefnogi ein trefi lleol a strydoedd mawr a gwario mwy o’n harian yn ein cymunedau.
“Lansion ni ein Cronfa Her yr Economi Sylfaenol oherwydd ein bod ni am i’n heconomi i weithio’n well ar gyfer ein cymunedau i gyd yng Nghymru, ac mae’r prosiect yma sydd wedi dod â Chyngor Torfaen a’r ap symudol UDDR at ei gilydd, yn arloesi ac yn defnyddio technoleg i’w wneud yn haws fyth i bobl siopa a gwario’n lleol a chefnogi busnesau yn eu hardal.
“Mae’n enghraifft wych o sut allwn ni gymryd camau i gryfhau seiliau ein heconomïau lleol fel ein bod ni mewn sefyllfa well i addasu a ffynnu sut bynnag fydd y dyfodol.”
Ychwanegodd David Smith, cyd-sylfaenydd UDDR “Daeth y syniad ar gyfer ap UDDR yn wreiddiol er mwyn cefnogi busnesau bach, yn arbennig cyflenwadau llaeth – dyna darddiad yr enw. Rydym yn falch o fod yn gweithio Alyson a’r Tîm Economi Sylfaenol ac yn edrych ymlaen at lwyddiannau pellach yn 2020/21.”
Bydd y Grant Cymorth Marchnata Busnesau Cychwynnol a arweinir gan y Tîm Economi Sylfaenol ym Mhont-y-pŵl yn cynnig arian i fusnesau cychwynnol i fod ar ap UDDR am 12 mis heb gost i’r busnesau sy’n ymuno yn ystod y cyfnod yma o 12 mis.
Dywedodd yr Aelod Gweithredol dros yr Economi, Sgiliau ac Adfywio, y Cynghorydd Joanne Gauden, “Mae’n wych ein bod yn parhau i gefnogi ethos ein heconomi sylfaenol lleol trwy weithio’n agos gydag UDDR i roi busnesau Torfaen ar y map.
Rydym wedi ymrwymo i gefnogi busnesau lleol i helpu eraill, tyfu’r economi leol a gwneud gwahaniaeth i galon ein cymuned trwy brynu’n lleol.
Mae’n bwysig dweud y gall busnesau lleol hefyd gael mynediad ar amrywiaeth o wasanaethau cefnogol trwy ymweld â Hyb2 ym Marchnad Dan Do Pont-y-pŵl.
Gall y tîm yno gefnogi busnesau lleol i gael mentora busnes, hyfforddiant cyfryngau cymdeithasol a chefnogaeth cynllunio busnes.”
