Cwmavon based Capital Valley Plastics are now playing a vital role in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Founded in 1987, Capital Valley Plastics employ over 100 people and when not responding to the pandemic, normally recycles around 9,000 tons of reclaimed scrap plastics and manufactures over 10,000 tonnes of finished goods for the construction industry every year.

During the pandemic, Capital Valley Plastics have donated a significant amount polythene handy packs to Nevill Hall hospital, which will now be used to protect vital medical equipment, create screened areas and wrap up all contaminated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) prior to disposal.

Archie Cameron, Lead Anaesthetic Practitioner and anaesthetist David Brooks, both work in the Intensive Treatment Unit at Neville Hall hospital. Archie said:  ‘The team are using the polythene to make trolley covers and have screened an area between two operating theatres, so they are over the moon. I can't thank Capital Valley Plastics enough, and to see the polythene being used for the safety of patients a is excellent’.

In addition, Capital Valley Plastics reacted to an urgent request from one of their Exeter clients, Rawle Gammon and Baker Building Supplies to aid in the construction of a temporary COVID-19 hospital in Devon.

Within 24 hours, 2 tonnes of polythene sheeting were despatched, followed by a further 9 tonnes over the following days. They have also supplied 66 tonnes of polythene to several COVID-19 projects in London.

Roger Phillips, Managing Director at Capital Valley, said: “I would personally like to thank Cllr Alan Jones for his advice at the start of this pandemic period and thank the Torfaen Economy & Enterprise Team who have provided us with a range of business support. We continue to operate safely and within the government guidance and are keen to do everything we can to help any COVID-19 projects in any way possible".

Torfaen Council Leader, Cllr Anthony Hunt said, “Capital Valley Plastics are a great local company who have a reputation for making first class products and for using recycled materials to make what they do sustainable and environmentally friendly. They are also good local people with a keen community spirit, and that is showing through in them stepping up to help provide our NHS with materials at a time of great need.

It’s fantastic to see Torfaen companies leading the way in what they do, and even better to see them doing that in a way that shows their corporate responsibility and community spirit at a difficult time. Well done Capital Valley Plastics.”

Mae Capital Valley Plastics nawr yn chwarae rôl hollbwysig yn yr ymateb i’r pandemig COVID-19.

Wedi ei sefydlu ym 1987, Mae Capital Valley Plastics yn cyflogi 100 o aelodau staff, ac fel rheol yn ailgylchu rhyw 9,000 tunnell o blastig sgrap wedi ei adennill ac yn gweithgynhyrchu dros 10,000 tunnell o nwyddau gorffenedig ar gyfer y diwydiant adeiladu bob blwyddyn.

Yn ystod y pandemig, mae Capital Valley Plastics wedi cyfrannu nifer arwyddocaol o becynnau polythen defnyddiol i ysbyty Neville Hall, a fydd nawr yn cael eu defnyddio i amddiffyn offer meddygol hanfodol, creu mannau wedi eu sgrinio ac i lapio holl PPE halogedig cyn ei waredu.

Meddai Archie Cameron, Ymarferwr Anaesthetig Arweiniol a’r anesthetydd David Brooks, y ddau yn gweithio yn yr Uned Triniaeth Ddwys yn ysbyty Neville Hall, ‘Mae’r staff yn ei ddefnyddio i wneud gorchuddion troli ac maent wedi sgrinio man rhwng dwy theatr, felly maent wrth eu boddau. Ni allaf ddiolch Capital Valley Plastics ddigon, ac mae ei weld yn cael ei ddefnyddio er diogelwch cleifion yn rhagorol.

At hyn, adweithiodd Capital Valley Plastics i gais brys gan un o’u cleientiaid yn Exeter, Rawle Gammon and Baker Building Supplies (un o gwmnïau deunyddiau adeiladu annibynnol mwyaf y De-orllewin) i gynorthwyo gydag adeiladu ysbyty COVID-19 dros dro yn Nyfnaint. O fewn 24 awr, rodd 2 dunnell o haenau polythen wedi eu hanfon, ac yna 9 tunnell arall dros y dyddiau canlynol. Maent hefyd wedi cyflenwi 66 tunnell o bolythene i nifer o brosiectau COVID-19 yn Llundain.

Rydym yn parhau i weithredu’n ddiogel ac o fewn canllawiau’r llywodraeth, ac rydym yn awyddus i wneud unrhyw beth y gallwn i helpu unrhyw brosiectau COVID-19 mewn unrhyw ffordd y gallwn.”

Meddai Arweinydd  Cyngor Torfaen, y Cynghorydd Anthony Hunt, 'Mae Capital Valley Plastics yn gwmni lleol gwych sydd ag enw da am wneud nwyddau dosbarth cyntaf ac am ddefnyddio deunyddiau wedi’u hailgylchu sy’n golygu bod yr hyn maent yn ei wneud yn gynaliadwy ac yn amgylcheddol-gyfeillgar. Maent hefyd yn bobl leol dda gyda ysbryd cymunedol mawr, ac mae hynny i’w weld wrth iddynt ddod ymlaen i helpu i ddarparu ein GIG gyda deunyddiau ar adeg o angen mawr.

Mae’n wych gweld cwmnïau Torfaen yn arwain y ffordd yn yr hyn maent yn ei wneud, a hyd yn oed yn well eu gweld yn gwneud hynny mewn ffordd sy’n dangos eu cyfrifoldeb corfforaethol a’u hysbryd cymunedol ar adeg anodd. Da iawn Capital Valley Plastics'.
