 Education and awareness key to a cleaner, greener and safer Torfaen
Since the council took over civil parking enforcement from Gwent Police (on July 1) 426 parking related tickets have been issued.
The new team of enforcement officers are keen to educate and raise awareness about parking and environmental laws, which is why the numbers of people fined to date are low in comparison to other local authorities. Read more...

Adult Learners across Torfaen are celebrating following fantastic results in their GCSE exams and a successful year of learning with Torfaen Adult Community Learning.
This year 76% of GCSE English and 80% of GCSE Math’s learners achieved A* - C passes.

Oedolion yn dathlu llwyddiant TGAU
Mae oedolion ar draws Torfaen yn dathlu ar ôl canlyniadau anhygoel yn eu harholiadau TGAU a blwyddyn lwyddiannus o ddysgu gyda Dysgu Cymunedol i Oedolion Torfaen.
Eleni llwyddodd 76% o ymgeiswyr TGAU Saesneg ac 80% o ymgeiswyr TGAU Mathemateg i gael graddau A* - C.

Torfaen Council is proud to be flying the rainbow flag this week as we lead up to Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend. Staff have been raising awareness of LGBT+ issues, supporting Stonewall Cymru by purchasing rainbow lanyards and signing-up for equalities training.
We are a Diversity Champion employer and have been members of Stonewall Cymru for a number of years. Stonewall Cymru has flagged Torfaen as the only LGBT inclusive employer in Gwent.
Every LGBT person, of every colour and background, should be able to enjoy equality, both within our organisation and throughout the communities we serve. Pride is therefore an important time for us to fly the rainbow flag at the Civic Centre and show our support for equality and acceptance for all LGBT people. #PrideMatters #StillProud

New campaign encouraging people in Torfaen to buy what they need to reduce the 7.1 million tonnes of food wasted every year in UK homes
In Torfaen, food makes up 31% (by weight) of what goes in our purple lidded wheelie bin. That wasted food costs money – roughly £230 per person annually in the UK – and the amount of C02 it emits is equal to that generated by 1 in 4 of the cars on our roads. But this doesn’t have to be the case.

 Hundreds of families benefit from Childcare Offer
Hundreds of families have already benefitted from the Childcare Offer over the past 12 months, with 592 children currently accessing it. There are 70 registered childcare providers in Torfaen which include; 32 childminders, 17 day nurseries, 16 playgroups, 2 cylch eithrin and three out of school clubs.
The Childcare Offer for Wales provides 30 hours a week of government funded early education and childcare for working parents of three and four-year-olds in Torfaen, for 48 weeks of the year.

Mae cannoedd o deuluoedd eisoes wedi elwa o’r cynnig dros y 12 mis diwethaf, gyda 592 o blant yn manteisio ar hyn o bryd. Mae yna 70 o ddarparwyr gofal plant cofrestredig yn Nhorfaen sy’n cynnwys; 32 o ofalwyr plant, 17 o feithrinfeydd dydd, 16 o gylchoedd chwarae, 2 gylch meithrin a thri o glybiau ar ôl ysgol.
Mae’r Cynnig Gofal Plant i Gymru, a ariennir gan y llywodraeth, yn rhoi 30 awr yr wythnos o addysg blynyddoedd cynnar a gofal plant i rieni sy’n gweithio ac sydd â phlant tair a phedair oed yn Nhorfaen, am 48 wythnos y flwyddyn.
