Torfaen Playscheme hand out 3,000 reusable bottles
This summer, Torfaen Play Service are doing their bit to help improve the local environment and reduce their carbon footprint by handing out 3,000 reusable drink bottles. This will potentially stop around 60,000 single use plastic bottles from being used over the summer playscheme period.
Each child that attends one of the 35 playscheme sites across the borough will receive their own reusable bottle free of charge. Read more...

 Next round of weed spraying in the borough to start
On Monday 12 August (weather permitting) Complete Weed Control (South & Central Wales) Ltd will be starting the second round of spot treating weeds on public footways and car parks using their cutting edge technology, the Weed-it, throughout the Torfaen on Council and Bron Afon Community Housing.

 £600,000 small capital grants fund opens for childcare settings in Torfaen
Applications for the Welsh Government Funded Childcare Offer - small capital grants scheme are now open for all childcare providers in Torfaen.
The capital grant funding will enable settings to increase the number of places available, will help to improve the quality of the facilities and opportunities to lower the age range of the provision to include 3 and 4 year olds for some settings. Read more...

Walking is by far the most popular leisure activity in Wales, with a quarter of the population doing it recreationally at least once a week. That’s double the number that swim, twice the number that go to the gym and three times as many that cycle.
Every one of us has a favourite walk which we believe epitomises the majestic Welsh landscape. Whether it’s an iconic trail or little-known-path-less-travelled, we all have a particular rambling route that inspires us and holds a special place in our hearts and which we love to share.
This series aims to discover Wales’ best walking routes-by inviting the people who know and love them best to showcase their favourite local escape.
But it won’t be a walk in the park. Every member of each group will take the helm as tour guide in their local area and only one will walk away victorious; with a backpack stuffed with top-of-the-range hiking gear, and their rambling route immortalised in the S4C Walk of Fame gallery.

Ond fydd hi ddim mor syml a mynd am dro. Bydd pob aelod o bob grwp cerdded yn cymryd yr awennau ac yn arwain y gweddill ar hyd trywydd o’u dewis nhw yn eu hardal leol, a dim ond un o’r pedwar arweinydd fydd yn ennill y wobr, sef llond backpack o offer heicio, am y daith gerdded orau.
