On Tuesday 18 August 2018, 10am to 3pm at Croesyceiliog CEC a very popular course is returning for another year in Torfaen. It offers a great opportunity for those looking to return to work, re-train or have aspirations of becoming a teacher or working as teaching assistant in the UK.
Pop along to the event to ask your burning questions, learn about progression routes and gain more information about the full course starting in September. There are no formal qualification requirements for this course and you are encouraged to get in touch with the Adult Community Learning team on 01633 647647 if you are interested but cannot make this date.

Adult Learners Week | Wythnos dysgwyr i oedolion
Adult Learners Week is taking
place across Wales from 18 – 24 June 2018. Torfaen Adult Community
Learning are celebrating the festival by having three days of Fun activities.
You can try your hand at woodturning, ceramics, drawing, cupcake
decorating, and mindfulness to name but a few. Workshops will be taking place
from 10am to 1pm at each of Torfaen Adult Community Learning Centres across
the three days.

Princes Trust Team programme | Rhaglen Hyfforddi Ymddiriedolaeth y Tywysog
 The first Princes
Trust Team programme is well underway with a group recently
completing the community project aspect of the programme by
re-decorating the gym at Ashley House Youth Centre in Pontnewynydd.
With support from Inspire to Work staff, the group have managed to update the tired
looking gym in order to benefit the young people who access the

Workclub at Croesyceiliog Community Education Centre | Clwb Gwaith yng Nghanolfan Addysg Gymunedol Croesyceiliog
Every Thursday morning at Croesyceiliog Community Education Centre a Bridges into Work 2 and Working Skills for Adults Work Club takes place. Run by Employment Support Victoria Gilbert, you can access to
computers, free internet access and support such as creating a CV, job application form guidance and support job searching. Participants use the session to gain one to one from the team.
This is a friendly and welcoming
environment that participants can use to meet with other members of the Bridges
into Work 2 and Working Skills for Adults 2 team, to discuss training and
voluntary opportunities.

Inspire to Achieve | Ysbrydoli i Gyflawni
Six year eight pupils from Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw successfully completed the Phoenix course at
Malpas Fire Station last week. They spent the week improving their
communication and listening skills and learning some of the drills
that fire fighters carry out in their job roles. In the fire station
there is a tall tower that the fire fighters use for ladder training
and putting fires out at height.
The group had the opportunity to
climb the ‘Tower’ via several ladders and were rewarded with
views across the whole of Newport and the Estuary when they reached
the top. The group also spent time in a ‘Dark House’ which gave
them an idea of what it is like to navigate around a house in pitch
black conditions and they used only their vocal and touch senses to
find dummies hidden in the house.
At
the end of the week, parents came to watch the group carry out a full
drill in which they set up hoses, attached them to a fire engine and
sprayed water from them as if they would if they were putting out a
real fire. Finally, the group were presented with certificates for
completing the course successfully.

Llwyddodd chwech o ddisgyblion blwyddyn wyth o Ysgol
Gyfun Gwynllyw i gwblhau cwrs Phoenix yng Ngorsaf Dân Malpas yr wythnos
diwethaf. Fe wnaethant dreulio’r wythnos yn gwella eu medrau cyfathrebu a
gwrando a dysgu rhai o'r driliau y mae diffoddwyr tân yn eu cyflawni yn eu
swyddogaethau. Yn yr orsaf dân mae tŵr uchel y mae'r diffoddwyr tân yn ei
ddefnyddio ar gyfer hyfforddiant ar ysgol a diffodd tanau ar uchder.
Cafodd y grŵp y cyfle i ddringo'r 'Tŵr' gan ddefnyddio
nifer o ysgolion a'u gwobr oedd y golygfeydd ar draws Casnewydd a'r aber cyfan
wrth iddynt gyrraedd y brig. Treuliodd y grŵp amser hefyd mewn 'Tŷ Tywyll' a
roddodd syniad iddynt o'r hyn y mae'n teimlo fel i symud o gwmpas tŷ sy'n
hollol dywyll, gan ddefnyddio'u synhwyrau, lleisiau a chyffwrdd yn unig i ddod
o hyd i ffug-fodelau oedd wedi'u cuddio yn y tŷ.
Ar ddiwedd yr wythnos, daeth rhieni i wylio'r grŵp yn
cyflawni dril lawn, pan oedd galw arnynt i osod pibellau, eu hatodi i injan dân
a chwistrellu dŵr ohonynt fel pe baent yn diffodd tân go iawn. Yn olaf,
cyflwynwyd tystysgrifau i'r grŵp am gwblhau'r cwrs yn llwyddiannus.
