As we return to more spring-like weather, we'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone for all the support and good will shown during last week's snow. From the people out helping their neighbours clear paths, checking elderly and vulnerable people were safe to businesses offering their resources and vehicles to help reach vulnerable and all the council staff, emergency services, health workers and public sector partners who worked around the clock to keep the borough moving and ensure the delivery of vital services. It was Torfaen community spirit at its finest! 

Snow disruption: Reminder bin collections this weekend

If your purple lidded bin was due for collection on Monday 5 or Tuesday 6 March, please put it out for collection on Saturday 10 March and it will be collected over the weekend on Saturday or Sunday. We will collect one additional bag of side waste from each property – please put this out next to your bin.
All black box recycling, food waste and card due for collection on these dates will be collected on your next scheduled day.

MMR vaccination urged as measles outbreak declared in South East Wales

Public Health Wales is urging young adults and teenagers to make sure they are protected against measles with two doses of the MMR vaccine as it investigates an outbreak of measles in South East Wales.

Mae Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru yn annog oedolion ifanc a phlant yn eu harddegau i sicrhau eu bod wedi'u diogelu rhag y frech goch gyda dau ddos o'r brechlyn MMR wrth iddo ymchwilio i achos o'r frech goch yn ne-ddwyrain Cymru.

Try a taste of Italy at Pontypool pop-up restaurant

There are a limited number of tickets available for our pop-up Italian restaurant at Pontypool Indoor Market on Thursday 22 March from 7pm.

On the menu for the evening will be focaccia & olives to start, while the main course will be  slow cooked beef in a tomato, garlic and olive oil sauce served with chilli and parmesan polenta, cavolo nero, and garlic potatoes. A vegetarian option of roasted pepper with spiced aubergine and Tallegio cheese will be available.

The meal will be finished with a trio of desserts including pannacotta, tirami su and Prosecco jelly.

Ar y fwydlen ar gyfer y noson bydd focaccia ac olifau i ddechrau, a’r prif gwrs fydd cig eidion wedi ei goginio’n araf mewn saws tomato, garlleg ac olew’r olewydd, gyda polenta chilli a pharmesan, cavolo nero a thatws garlleg.
