Weather update
From 8am on Thursday and into the weekend, the Met Office has issued an Amber warning for snow and ice and there is scope for snow accumulations which could lead to widespread disruption.
Heavy snow and gale force winds could affect Torfaen throughout Thursday, Friday and into the weekend with the potential for accumulations of 30cms of snow on higher ground. The forecast suggests accumulations will make driving conditions difficult and may cause disruption to public transport throughout the borough.
Waste and recycling collections for Thursday are planned to take place as normal weather permitting, but please be aware bulky household collections will be cancelled as staff will be on weather/snow-related duties.
School closures
A number of schools have contacted us to say they are closed on Thursday and Friday. These include West Mon, George Street Primary, Blaenavon, New Inn, Penygarn, Griffithstown and Llanyrafon Primary. We will be updating our website and social media pages with the latest closures as we receive information from the schools..
Please check the website for the latest closures.

Gritting Routes
As always, during snow our priority is to keep the main routes open and we will not consider gritting side streets unless our support is requested via a call from the emergency services. Once priority routes are clear we can then consider moving into side streets, prioritising the higher, steeper areas of the borough.
There are over 700 salt bins strategically placed around the borough for use on side streets. If your nearest salt bin is empty you can tell us here www.torfaen.gov.uk/en/Forms/Request/Winter-Maintenance.aspx but please be aware that in periods of snowfall the crews’ first priority is to keep the main routes open.
Use our mapping system to find the gritting routes and grit bins in your area.
Llwybrau graeanu
Fel bob amser, yn ystod cyfnod o eira ein blaenoriaeth yw cadw'r prif lwybrau ar agor ac ni fyddwn yn ystyried graeanu strydoedd ymylol oni bai bod y gwasanaethau brys yn galw am ein cymorth.
Unwaith y bydd y llwybrau o flaenoriaeth yn glir, gallwn ystyried symud i mewn i'r strydoedd ymylol, gan flaenoriaethu'r ardaloedd uchaf a serthaf yn y fwrdeistref.
Mae dros 700 o finiau halen wedi'u gosod yn strategol o gwmpas y fwrdeistref i'w defnyddio ar strydoedd ymylol. Os yw eich bin halen agosaf yn wag gallwch chi ddweud wrthym yma www.torfaen.gov.uk/en/Forms/Request/Winter-Maintenance.aspx ond cofiwch, pan fydd eira yn disgyn, mai blaenoriaeth gyntaf y criwiau yw cadw’r prif lwybrau ar agor.
Defnyddiwch ein system fapio i ganfod y llwybrau graeanu a'r biniau graean yn eich ardal.
Clearing snow and ice from pavements
There's no law stopping you from clearing snow and ice on the pavement outside your home or from public spaces. The yellow grit bins are there for residents to use on local trouble spots – please use the salt sensibly, as a thin layer is usually all that is needed to be effective. Advice and information is available on www.gov.uk.
Clirio eira a rhew o’r palmentydd
Nid oes unrhyw gyfraith yn eich rhwystro rhag clirio eira a rhew o’r palmant y tu allan i'ch cartref neu o fannau cyhoeddus. Mae'r biniau graean melyn ar gael i drigolion eu defnyddio o fewn yr ardal lleol - defnyddiwch yr halen yn synhwyrol, gan mai dim ond haen denau sydd angen fel arfer i fod yn effeithiol. Mae cyngor a gwybodaeth ar gael ar www.gov.uk.
