Award winning chef to bring a taste of Spain to Pontypool / Cogydd arobryn yn dod â blas Sbaen i Bont-y-pŵl

An award winning chef is bringing a taste of Spain to Torfaen with a pop-up tapas night in Pontypool Indoor Market on Thursday 28 September at 7pm. 

 

Mark Coulton of Sugar Loaf Catering has won numerous awards including the prestigious Great Taste and Wales True Taste awards, and has worked for the Abergavenny Food Festival, supporting the chefs and suppliers to deliver the largest food festival in Wales.

 

He will be creating classic tapas dishes with produce sourced directly from the market and local area, all served with rustic homemade breads and accompanied by authentic Spanish guitar from local musician David Hobbs.

 

Mr Coulton said: “Sugar Loaf Catering started life in markets in the heart of local communities. We moved the business to Blaenavon in 2014 and I am delighted to be able to put on this event for the local community in Torfaen. 

 

“Pontypool Indoor Market is a quirky venue with fantastic catering facilities and is stocked full of good quality produce. I will be able to get almost everything – from fresh fruit and veg, fish, meat, and all my herbs and spices here. Everything I can’t get from the market I will source as locally as possible.

 

“Tapas is perfect for this sort of evening. It is a sharing experience with your fellow diners, with lots of different dishes that give you the chance to try out plenty of new and interesting foods. I hope that people from across Torfaen will come and join us for the evening.” 

 

Councillor Alan Jones, executive member for business, tourism, leisure and culture, said: “We are delighted to be working with Mark to host this event. As well as putting on a fantastic night for local residents, the fact that Mark is able to source most of his produce from the market just goes to show the wide range of fresh, good quality food available in Pontypool.

 

“If the evening is a success then it means we can look at using the market for all sorts of new and interesting events, so I would urge as many people as possible to book their tickets.”   

 

The tapas night takes place on Thursday 28 September at 7pm. Tickets are £15 for food and a glass of Prosecco, and are available from Pontypool Indoor Market, or by contacting Sugar Loaf Catering on 01495 793325 or info@sugarloafcatering.co.uk 

 

It takes place on the final Foodie Thursday in the market, which will see a wide variety of local food businesses trading from the market every Thursday throughout September.

Mae Mark Coulton o Sugar Loaf Catering wedi ennill nifer o wobrau gan gynnwys gwobrau mawreddog Great Taste a Chymru - y Gwir Flas, ac mae wedi gweithio i Ŵyl Fwyd y Fenni, gan gefnogi’r cogyddion a’r cyflenwyr i gyflwyno’r ŵyl fwyd fwyaf yng Nghymru.

 

Bydd yn creu prydiau tapas clasurol gyda chynnyrch o’r farchnad a’r ardal leol, pob un gyda bara cartref a chyda cerddoriaeth gitâr Sbaenaidd yng nghwmni’r cerddor lleol David Hobbs.

 

Dywedodd Mr Coulton: “Dechreuodd Sugar Loaf Catering mewn marchnadoedd yng nghalon cymunedau lleol. Symudon ni’r busnes i Flaenafon yn 2014 ac rwy’n falch o’r cyfle i gyfrannu at y digwyddiad yma i’r gymuned leol yn Nhorfaen.

 

“Mae Marchnad Dan Do Pont-y-pŵl yn lleoliad gwahanol iawn gyda chyfleusterau arlwyo gwych ac mae’n llawn cynnyrch o ansawdd uchel. Byddaf yn gallu cael bron pob dim - o ffrwythau a llysiau ffres, pysgod, cig a’r holl berlysiau a sbeisys yma. Fe fydda’ i’n prynu pob dim nad oes modd i mi gael yn y farchnad mor lleol â phosibl. 

 

“Mae Tapas yn berffaith ar gyfer y math yma o noson.  Profiad o rannu gyda’ch ffrindiau, gyda nifer o brydiau gwahanol sy’n rhoi cyfle i chi brofi digon o fwydydd newydd a diddorol. Rwy’n gobeithio y bydd pobl o ar draws Torfaen yn ymuno gyda ni am y noson.” 

 

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Alan Jones, yr aelod gweithredol dros fusnes, twristiaeth, hamdden a diwylliant: “Rydym yn hynod o falch o fod yn gweithio gyda Mark i gyflwyno’r noson yma.  Yn ogystal â darparu noson wych i drigolion lleol, mae’r ffaith fod Mark yn gallu cael y rhan fwyaf o’i gynnyrch yn lleol yn y farchnad yn dangos yr amrywiaeth o fwyd ffres, da sydd ar gael ym Mhont-y-pŵl.

 

“Os bydd y noson yn llwyddiannus yna mae hyn yn golygu y byddwn y gallu defnyddio’r farchnad at bob math o ddigwyddiadau newydd a diddorol, felly rydw i’n annog cymaint o bobl ag sy’n bosibl i archebu tocynnau.”
