Get ready for Pontypool’s Party in the Park this weekend

Pontypool Party in the Park takes place this weekend in Pontypool Park between 11am and 5pm.

The event will celebrate the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics with a full programme of sporting activities taking place throughout the day.

Torfaen Leisure Trust will be showcasing the best of their sport and fitness clubs and the Welsh Rugby Union will be running a girl’s rugby tournament over on the rugby pitch.

For those inspired by Wimbledon, Cwmbran Tennis will be offering taster sessions, and for winter sports fans there is a national competition taking place on the ski slope. There is also street surfing and a climbing wall for anyone wanting a challenge.

There is also a packed line-up of music and dance acts, with local favourites Spellbound headlining the music stage.

The park’s iconic bandstand will play host to brass bands, and performances of Romeo and Juliet from Torfaen’s Ad Hoc Theatre group.

A special children’s parade will also take place from 2pm and community arts group Head4Arts will be running craft and music workshops for those wanting to join in with the parade on the day.

Melin Homes is bringing bouncy castles and children’s games, and for the first time at this event there will be donkey rides for children organised by Bron Afon Community Housing, as well as the usual stalls, arts and crafts, entertainment and fairground rides.
