Cwmbran Big Event

The annual Cwmbran Big Event takes place on Saturday 11 June 2016 at 12pm-5pm at Cwmbran Boating Lake in Llanyrafon.

The event includes sporting competitions, craft and food stalls, and a large covered stage for a wide variety of music and dance acts, headlined by the Voice’s Tobias Robertson.

There will be rides for small children, Greenmeadow Community Farm animals, paddle boats a climbing wall, and for the first time there will also be a laser tag arena.

Taxi drivers have licences revoked

Three Torfaen taxi drivers have appeared in court on separate occasions due to inappropriate behaviour, illegal taxi driving and a licensing hearing. Licensed taxi driver, Nicky James, was found to be acting in an inappropriate manner towards female customers. The decision was made to revoke Mr James taxi drivers licence and was deemed to not be a fit and proper person to hold this licence.

School eco fair raises funds to replace equipment destroyed in fire

Coed Eva Primary School's annual eco fair has raised about £1000 to replace litter pickers, water butts and eco-equipment lost when fire destroyed part of the school in January. Pupils from all years made gifts from recycled materials which they sold to parents.

Cwmbran board game club

A new board game club for adults is running at Cwmbran Library every other Tuesday from 2pm until 4pm. The fortnightly club is free to attend and games and refreshments are provided. The next sessions take place on the 7 and 21 of June, and the 5 and 19 of July. For further details contact Cwmbran Library on 01633 647675.

Pontypool Party in the Park parade

Pontypool Party in the Park will take place on Saturday 9 July in Pontypool Park and this year will celebrate the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. Community arts group Heads4Arts will be at the event running craft and music drop-in workshops for children (and their parents) who wish to take part in a children’s parade on the day. The children’s parade will start at 2pm in the centre field and wind its way throughout the park. It will be made up of children’s Samba bands and local nursery and childcare groups, all dressing up for the occasion.
