Blaenavon World Heritage Centre has a series of environmentally friendly ‘make and take’ workshops planned for the half term holiday.Sessions will be run by local art and craft shop Artie Craftie, and children are encouraged to bring in recycling from home to make something fun and creative.There are two daily sessions, which take place from 11am until 1pm, and 2pm until 4pm. The sessions cost £1 and there is a different theme each day.

Torfaen's Sports Development team already have plans to keep your children entertained this February half term.
Activities such as swimming, football and a session on the ski slope will take place on Wednesday 17th February and Friday 19th February.

Torfaen Council is looking for sporting stars of the future to contact them if they want free access to the area’s leisure facilities. The scheme provides support and encouragement to Torfaen’s leading talented and elite sports performers by offering free access at designated off-peak times to leisure and sports facilities for personal training and development.

Children aged 12 and under visiting any of Torfaen's libraries during February and March could be in with a chance to win rugby goodies as part of a Wales-wide competition.The competition aims to encourage children to explore their local libraries and runs until 19 March to coincide with the RBS 6 Nations Championship.

The bottom level of the Civic Centre car park in Pontypool will be closed on the weekends of the 13-14 and 20-21 of February for essential maintenance work.
Contractors will be on site carrying out repairs to the rising bollards at the car park entrance.The rest of the car park, and all other car parks in the town, will remain open as usual.

A Caerphilly man has been made to pay £370 for illegally collecting scrap metal without a licence in Pontypool.
Justin Kidley, 42, of Lon yr Odyn, Caerphilly, was stopped by Torfaen council’s licencing officers in June 2015 when he was spotted collecting scrap metal from households in the Trevethin area of Pontypool. He pleaded guilty to acting as a scrap metal dealer without the relevant licence, and was fined £200, ordered to pay costs of £150 and a victim surcharge of £20, at Cwmbran Magistrates Court on February 1 2016,

About 40 young witches, wizards and other magical folk took part in Torfaen Libraries’ celebration of national Harry Potter Book Night this week.Children in Blaenavon and Cwmbran libraries began the evening by being placed into their houses by the Sorting Hat, after which they made their own wands, created mythical monsters, and took part in a hunt for magical items.
