Amy Parry Reading Challenge

Blaenavon school pupil wins reading challenge

Children from across Torfaen took part in a reading challenge organised by the Reading Agency. This year the Summer Reading Challenge teamed up with Guinness World Records to establish a Record Breakers themed challenge. The aim was for children to read six or more library books of their choice over the summer, and almost 950 Torfaen children took up the challenge, with record numbers completing it.

More than 450 local children were awarded medals and entered in to a prize draw to win a Samsung Galaxy tablet and case. Nine-year-old Amy Parry, a pupil at Blaenavon Heritage VC Primary, was the lucky winner and was presented with her prize by the mayor of Torfaen, councillor Giles Davies.

The Summer Reading Challenge is one of many exciting schemes public libraries are running to help children develop a love of reading, gain confidence and get new skills.

Call in to your local library or visit www.librarywales.org to find out more.
