Friday 22 September
Greetings and a hearty welcome to an exhilarating journey through our brand-new SEND provision and support toolkits - Torbay’s new Graduated Response.
We understand that each child is a unique star in their own constellation, and some may require that extra sprinkle of stardust.
Enter the Graduated Response – ensuring children and young adults receive the exact support they need, exactly when they need it. We call this our Graduated Response – our plan of action to make sure children and young people receive the right support, in the right place, at the right time.
We've not just created FIVE toolkits; we've crafted them with experts in that field. We’ve also created an Early Years toolkit for children under five years old.
These five toolkits are like treasure chests, each holding the secrets to unlocking potential:
🧠 Cognition and learning
🗣️ Speech, language, and communication
💖 Social, emotional, and mental health
🤸♀️ Physical and sensory
🌈 Neurodiversity
Many of our shining stars don't fit into just one toolkit. They're the constellations that blaze across the night sky and therefore you can use multiple toolkits and adapt them to meet the needs of your unique child or young person.
Over the next few weeks, we're bringing our roadshow right to your school's doorstep. 🚗💨
You’ll be able to speak to staff from your own school or college, the council’s SEND team, SEND Family Voice Torbay (SFVT), NHS colleagues and from our social work teams and the Family Hubs.
We’ve already visited a few primary schools on our journey so far and they've been great successes. We've spoken to lots of families and staff about SEND support, diagnosis and transitioning schools.
Your school or college will be communicating out the time and location of when you can come and see us to talk through everything SEND.
We will also be running some online roadshow events after the October half-term - our October newsletter will have all the details.
Yours in excitement and anticipation,
🌟 Rebecca Box and Karen Roofe - Co-Chairs SEND Family Voice Torbay and 🌟 Hannah Spencer - Head of SEND and Inclusion
School transport
We would like to thank parents for their co-operation where there was a delay in receiving information regarding their home to school transport arrangements at the start of term. We are sorry for any difficulty this caused. We're looking into our processes to ensure that this doesn't happen again.
Help - we need you!
Would you like to be part of Torbay's parent carer forum, SFVT? We work in a co-productive way with our SEND area partners in education, health and social care, to improve services for children, young people, parents and carers.
As a forum, we also want to be leaders of change for SEND, with an agenda set by you, Torbay parents and carers.
If you would like to have a chat about what we do and how you could help, please get in touch by emailing us.
Thank you!
Karen and Becky
