Supporting SEND Families in Stoke-on-Trent
We’re thrilled to bring you the first newsletter in our Inclusion Week series! Each day this week, we’ll be sharing practical information and local resources to help families with children and young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) feel supported and connected.
Today, we’re focusing on the fantastic support that is available locally. Whether you’re looking for advice, a friendly space to connect with other parents, or activities for your child, there are brilliant organisations right here in Stoke-on-Trent ready to help.

Family Hubs
Family Hubs are located across Stoke-on-Trent and make life easier for families by bringing together a wide range of support in one place. They offer both outreach and virtual services, so whether you prefer in person or online help, there is an option for everyone.
At the hubs, you will find practical advice and guidance for families with children and young people aged 0–25. This includes help with everyday challenges, signposting to specialist services, and opportunities to connect with other families.
Family Hubs also champion inclusion and celebrate diversity, hosting events and activities that welcome everyone. They can also guide you to the Local Offer and SENDIASS (SEND Information, Advice and Support Service) for more detailed information and support.

SENDIASS (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service)
SENDIASS is a free, confidential, and impartial service for parents, carers, and young people with SEND in Stoke-on-Trent. They provide expert advice and guidance on a wide range of topics, including:

Education and EHCPs – understanding Education, Health and Care Plans and your child’s rights

Support with Meetings – help preparing for and attending school or local authority meetings

Information on Local Services – signposting to resources and organisations that can help

Empowering Families – ensuring your voice is heard and your child’s needs are met
SENDIASS works independently from schools and the local authority, so you can trust their advice to be impartial and focused on your family’s best interests. Contact them on the below:
PEGiS
PEGiS is a parent-led, voluntary support network created by parents for parents. It is a welcoming space where everyone supports each other and offers a strong sense of community. Parents are also able to get practical advice and share their experiences.
They also work closely with local services to make sure families’ voices are heard and that support reflects needs. PEGiS is here to help you feel less alone and more empowered. Hear from Keely and Michelle from PEGiS in the video below:
Project Indi
Project Indi runs monthly SEND family support sessions at local Family Hubs. These sessions provide a safe space to share experiences, access to resources and emotional support and activities for children.
Sessions are free, inclusive, and family-friendly, and are designed to help parents and carers feel supported while children enjoy fun, sensory-friendly activities. Project Indi also works to build confidence and resilience in families, ensuring that everyone feels part of a caring community. You can book sessions here: SEND Family Groups

Peter Pan Centre
Peter Pan Centre specialise in supporting children under five and their families. The nursery provides weekly Education, Care and Development sessions in Newcastle-under-Lyme. These sessions help children develop confidence, social skills, mobility, and communication. Each child receives tailored support from experienced practitioners, and parent/carers have time for respite while their child attends.
Peter Pan also runs Stay and Play groups in Burslem, Fenton and Newcastle for under-5s. These relaxed sessions offer activities for children, ideas for home, and opportunities for parents/carers to meet each other. Staff are available to share advice and support.
Support for families includes:
- Training and workshops for parents
- Help with forms, meetings, and school visits
- Guidance on child development, sleep, behaviour, and eating
- Social activities and wellbeing support
