Delivering Change at the Annual Conference
Thank you to everyone who made it to the Annual Conference at Beau Desert Golf Club on 19th June. It was a great and rather hot day. Thank you to all presenters and contributors on the day. Thanks must also go to the staff at the golf club who did a great job and for leading the walk around the course to show the heathland restoration.
All main presentations, where available, from the conference can now be found on the website.

Conference collaboration
Our Annual Conference at Beau Desert Golf Club produced some great collaborative thinking and resulted in a creation of paper trees by local artist Jennifer Collier. The trees were made from out of date leaflets and end of life maps, archive images and collated responses from delegates attending the conference to answer the question - What does a wild and beautiful, distinctive, thriving, resilient and welcoming National Landscape look like to you?
The information collated on the day has been stitched together by Jennifer to form 3 large and 5 small trees. To see the completed installation, read your words and see your images, it is currently on display in the Cannock Chase Visitor Centre, Marquis Drive. It will be there until 13th August and then will go on display in Cannock library.

Annual Review
The Annual Review for 2024-25 is now available to download from the website. The Annual Review provides a summary of last year’s achievements and successes of the Cannock Chase National Landscape Partnership. It showcases the breadth of work that has gone on in delivering our core purpose of conserving and enhancing the natural beauty of Cannock Chase. Please feel free to share around your colleagues and networks as appropriate.

Aquatic Invertebrate Report
The National Landscape team commissioned Staffordshire Wildlife Trust to carry out a survey of the forest streams that drain off the Cannock Chase plateau to assess the invertebrate species that call them home. The presence, or absence, of particular invertebrate species can reveal a great deal about water and habitat quality and any adverse pressures they have been enduring. The report can be downloaded here. Just click on the Land Management and biodiversity section.

Peatland Potential
Peatlands are significant carbon stores, helping in the fight against climate change. They are also home to rare and characteristic wildlife species and are an important archive of past human activities. Penny Anderson Associates consultants have been helping us collate and analyse studies and data to identify existing peat deposits, and areas of interest which have the potential to contain peat. Report can be downloaded here.
Do not Block Access
Please do not under any circumstances park on yellow lines or block any gates or driveways, access maybe required for emergency vehicles.
A reminder to leave gates and property as you find them. Stick to marked paths, unless wider access is available.

Don't be Blamed for the Flames
Further to the fires at Gentleshaw Common and in other national parks please note and help to share the message that barbecues, fires and naked flames are NOT allowed on any part of the Chase at anytime. With warmer weather and the ground already very dry we need to prevent incidences like this happening in the future.
For more information please do take note of Staffordshire's Fire and Rescue service Don't be blamed for the Flames . If you see a fire call 999 as soon as possible.
We need to remember the Cannock Chase code to protect, respect and enjoy Cannock Chase to prevent future damage to plants and wildlife.

Walking booklet
Make the most of the warmer longer summer months and take time to get out on Cannock Chase walking.
The Walking Cannock Chase booklet with 14 circular walks is available to purchase at just £3.50 each.
Outlets stocking the booklet include Stafford, Cannock, Rugeley and Lichfield libraries. Stafford Heritage Centre, Cannock Chase Visitor Centre on Marquis Drive, Canalside Farmshop, Cannock Chase Forest Centre and Shugborough Estate.

Friendly reminder
The open country and common land rights require that you must keep your dog on a short lead between 1st March and 31st July and all year round when near farm animals. This is to protect ground nesting birds and other wildlife from being disturbed. More information can be found on the Countryside Code.
Pick up one of the Canine Calendars from any of the Visitor Centres to help you enjoy the Chase whilst keeping your dog safe and allowing the special habitats and species to thrive. More information can be found here from the Special Area of Conservation Partnership website.
