Early Years Practitioner Hub - important update
We recently launched the Early Years Practitioner Hub for Staffordshire early years settings. This hub allows setting managers and practitioners (including childminders) to review and book onto training and events hosted by our Early Years Team.
However, we are seeing a rise in practitioners attending training events who have not booked a place.
This is a reminder that practitioners MUST book onto a training event if places are available, otherwise their attendance cannot be recorded, and a delegate will not receive a certificate.
We want to ensure practitioners have the right access to training events and the Early Years Practitioner Hub makes it easy to register and book onto events. It allows:
- practitioners to book and manage their own events and learning
- to cancel bookings if practitioners can no longer attend
- join a waiting list or set reminders to receive notifications about upcoming events.
- allows settings to manage bookings for their own practitioners - i.e. managers can request this access by emailing ey.adminsupport@staffordshire.gov.uk
If a delegate can no longer attend an event but want to send another practitioner from the same setting in their place, the new delegate must first register and book on. If the event has no places left contact ey.adminsupport@staffordshire.gov.uk who can help swap bookings.
Visit www.staffordshire.gov.uk/eyhub for more information and guidance.
New - Under 2's speech and language screening tool
There are still places available on our sessions to introduce the Under 2’s speech and language screening tool. The screening tool is intended for early years practitioners working with children around the 12 month milestone mark and forms part of the current speech and language pathway to access specialist support.
Click your chosen session below to book your place on the EY Practitioner Hub. Delegates only need attend one session.
Practitioners must book a place to attend this event.

Ofsted opens registrations for new childcare provider type
Ofsted has begun accepting applications for a new category of childcare provider, as part of a series of changes the DfE has introduced to give the early years and childcare sector more flexibility.
Childcare providers now have the option to register as childminders without domestic premises, meaning they can work solely from somewhere other than a home, such as a village hall.
Previously, childminders had to register on domestic premises and spend at least 50% of their time working from a home address. The government has now removed this limit, but those registered to provide care at someone’s home will still have to spend some of their time on domestic premises. It will be up to individual providers to decide how best to split this between settings.
The total number of people who can work together under a childminder’s registration has also increased from 3 to 4, allowing providers more flexibility to work with others, such as co-childminders and childminding assistants.

Invitation for after school providers: e-bug online focus group and free material
e-Bug.eu operated by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is a health education programme that aims to promote positive behaviour change among children to support infection prevention and offers free materials for teaching children about microbes, infection and health protection. They are now exploring how these activities can be adapted for after school settings.
They are inviting after-school care staff to join an online focus group to discuss the materials and how they can be tailored to their needs. Participants will receive a £25 retail voucher for each one hour session. All meetings will be online at convenient times, and no prior experience with e-Bug is necessary.
