Congratulations - Outstanding!
Many congratulations to childminder Rachel Jeffrey (EY347381) in East Staffordshire for her 2nd consecutive Outstanding judgement. Rachel told us "I'm over the moon. It means such a lot to me to be recognised for everything I do. My inspector made me feel relaxed and it was a very positive experience."
Many congratulations go to Teddybears Nursery (EY295940) in South Staffordshire for their 2nd consecutive Outstanding. Manager Carol said 'We are absolutely thrilled to retain our Outstanding judgement and to receive the most positive feedback. My amazing team always ensures our children are safe, happy and developing in all areas through our rich learning environment'.
Congratulations also go to The Firs Day Nursery (2801079) in East Staffordshire for their recent Outstanding Ofsted judgement. Manager Jenny said "We are very proud to be awarded an Ofsted Outstanding judgment. It is wonderful to have the quality of our provision, along with the staffs' hard work and dedication recognised as we celebrate our 35th year of providing high quality childcare."

Free - Training opportunities
1. Having Courageous Conversations with parents and carers
This course, aimed at anyone who works directly with children, young people and their families, provides an opportunity to reflect upon and understand why some conversations can feel difficult. It offers a same space to explore the challenges of difficult conversations and the potential barriers to having open and transparent conversations about sensitive subjects. It aims to:
- Explore why some conversations are difficult and the impact on practitioners
- Consider how a restorative approach can support effective discussion by us having empathy for the other parties position
- Explore how conflict can be avoided and minimised
- Discover tips to managing difficult conversations and increase confidence

2. When couples become carers–parental relationships where children have SEND
This session, aimed at anyone who works directly with children & young people who have special educational needs, disabilities, long-term illness or are neurodiverse and their parents/families, explores how having a child with additional needs or disabilities may impact on the couple / co-parent relationship and consider what professionals can do to support effectively. The course aims to:-
- Consider the range of stressors on a co-parent relationship
- Explore the research around parental relationships and SEND
- Reflect upon the impact on relationships of having a child with SEND
- Consider what parents need from us and how we can acknowledge their relationship pressures.

3. Safeguarding and welfare workshop-meeting the needs of babies
These sessions, aimed at EY practitioners caring for babies under two years of age working in PVI Nurseries and Pre-Schools, and Childminders, will support understanding of what to consider when creating a safeguarding culture for babies.

4. Graduated response and how this relates to an Education, Health and Care needs assessment
This 2 part course, aimed at EY settings and SENCOs, will explore the graduated response, including how and when to implement and record the various elements of the graduated response. This includes environmental and practice changes, SMART targets and referrals to other agencies and more. Part 2 will focus on writing effective SMART targets, utilising cycles of Assess, Plan, Do and Review (APDR), how to deliver targeted plans effectively and who is the best person to do this, and how to address barriers and obstacles to implementation.
Delegates will be required to attend both parts of this event.

EY qualifications
The Department for Education (DfE) has updated the lists of qualifications that meet their criteria for counting the EYFS framework staff: child ratios, with newly approved qualifications, and updated wording around qualification dates. Click the link to learn more.
Disability Access Fund (DAF)
Some children in receipt of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) could be eligible for additional funding through the Disability Access Fund (DAF).
Childcare providers could receive a one off payment of £910 per calendar year for each eligible child that could aid in making reasonable adjustments at the setting and improve accessibility to funded places.
Children claiming DLA could be eligible if they receive one of the following:
- 15 EEF hours for children aged from 9 months to 2 years old who are eligible for the working parent entitlement, or
- 15 EEF hours for disadvantaged 2-year-olds, known as Think2, or
- 15 EEF hours as the universal entitlement for 3 and 4 year olds.

Early Years Pupil Premium
Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) is extra funding that is available to support eligible children.
Childcare providers could claim an extra 0.68 pence per hour which is payable up to a maximum of 570 funded hours a year.
