Council and district news
Community plan voted through in first-ever South Staffordshire local referendum
A neighbourhood plan will now influence planning in an area in South Staffordshire after being voted in by residents in a referendum which was the first of its kind for the district.
Those living in the Kinver parish had the opportunity to vote on the plan in a referendum held at the Edward Marsh Centre on August 24.
With a majority ‘yes’ vote of 86.9% the plan can now be enforced.
The turnout for the referendum was 17%
Drawn up by a steering group for the parish, the community plan will now influence planning decisions in the area. It contains policies ranging from housing, sustainable design, to climate change and local green spaces.

On-call firefighters recruitment
A recruitment drive for on-call firefighters at fire stations across South Staffordshire is currently underway.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is on the lookout for new crew members for its stations in Penkridge, Brewood, Codsall, Wombourne and Kinver.
On-call firefighters typically provide cover from either their home or place of work and respond to the fire station on receipt of a pager call.
Working alongside their full-time colleagues, they are regularly called upon to tackle a range of incidents including fires, flooding, road traffic collisions and other emergencies. In addition to this, they also carry out important preventative work with local homes and businesses.
