Five star rated food outlets
Our Environmental Health team has had the pleasure of awarding a number of food outlets the top rating of five stars for food safety over the last month.
The food hygiene rating reflects the standards of food hygiene found on the date of the inspection. The food hygiene rating is not a guide to food quality.
Top five-star ratings went to:

Elections voter ID: Are you ready?
The UK Government has introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station at some elections.
This new requirement will apply for the first time in England at the local elections on Thursday, May 4th, 2023.

Leisure latest
Wombourne Swimming Pool reopening soon!
Wombourne Leisure Centres refurbishment work is now near completion with the swimming pool and poolside changing rooms planned to re-open very soon.
There are some minor and outstanding works to be completed before the facilities can officially re-open however we are pushing for the final works to be completed as soon as possible.
The leisure centre plan to confirm the re-opening date next week.

New Leisure Hub coming soon
The new ‘Leisure Hub’ platform is due to go live on Monday, April 3rd, 2023. The platform will initially be accessible to leisure centre members, however we anticipate that the platform will be rolled out to non-members in May.
Using the Leisure Hub will be a simple, efficient and interactive experience and will provide users with access to information, all in one place!
Customers will be able:
- Book activities
- View timetables
- Make payments
- Join and pay online
- Switch memberships
- Manage your account
All users (members and non-members) will need to register on the new platform and to do this customers will need to enter their email address.
The online booking platform is currently unavailable whilst we transition over to the new platform. This means that all bookings need to be made via the leisure centres reception or by telephone.

New Netball League at Cheslyn Hay Leisure Centre

A new netball league is now running at Cheslyn Hay Leisure Centre which welcomes individuals of all abilities.
This will be an indoor weekly event.
Mondays, 8:00pm - 9:30pm.
£5 per player, per game or £35 per team.

Partnership Updates
Consultation with young people
Staffordshire Council of Voluntary Youth Services (SCVYS) has been asked by the Violence Reduction Alliance (VRA) to engage with children and young people aged 11-25 years old. The consultation aims to understand the views and concerns of young people, and how as a partnership we can work together to improve community safety across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
The findings of the engagement exercise will inform the development of the VRA strategy, identify support required locally for young people and help shape future awareness campaigns.
There are 2 elements to the work;
- a survey that can be independently completed by all and any young people aged between 11 and 25 via which we aim to hear the universal voice and experience of young people in relation to violence. This can be done by groups as part of a school-based session or individually in their own time.
- the opportunity for 1-2-1 or small group conversations with young people who have been directly impacted by violence and can therefore provide more qualitative information around their lived experience. If you and your organisation are interested in hosting or facilitating a discussion with young people you know and work with, then do get in touch as to how we can help your young people feed into this work.

Bowel Cancer
Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer and second biggest cancer killer in the UK.
However, it is treatable and curable, especially if diagnosed early, and there have been major advances in treatments and bowel cancer screening programmes in recent years.
Some key facts from Bowel Cancer UK are:
- Nearly 43,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in the UK.
- Around 268,000 people living in the UK today have been diagnosed with bowel cancer.
- More than nine out of ten new cases (94%) are diagnosed in people over the age of 50, and nearly six out of ten cases (59%) are diagnosed in people aged 70 or over. But bowel cancer can affect anyone of any age. More than 2,600 new cases are diagnosed each year in people under the age of 50.
- One in 15 men and one in 18 women will be diagnosed with bowel cancer during their lifetime.

- book an online meeting with a nurse to ask questions about bowel cancer.

There is a huge range of activities and events from Baby Bounce and Rhyme time for little ones, Coffee and Chat sessions, Local History activities, Craft sessions plus lots more.
