 Southampton's V.E. Day 70th Anniversary Party
9 May / Guildhall Square
Hampshire Royal British Legion and Southampton City Council have teamed up to put on a 1940s-themed street party and are looking to recruit veterans for the occasion. Anyone who served in the armed forces during World War Two or who lived through the Blitz in Southampton in November and December 1940 is welcome to attend the bash in Guildhall Square on 9 May.
John Smith, chairman of the Hampshire branch, said “The Legion nationally is running a series of events in London to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day and it is encouraging the county branches to stage their own activities and we thought a big street party for veterans would be perfect".
Local organisations and businesses are invited to get involved to assist in the organisation of this celebratory event.
Organisations are asked to identify up to eight men or women who lived through the war, arrange their transportation to and from the event and provide a party pack of food and drink for them.
Entertainment will come from a big band, while singers in period costume will be belting out 1940s classics.
If you are able to get involved and would like to book a table for your nominated group, please confirm your interest by contacting John Smith, Hampshire County Chairman, at The Royal British Legion, 104 Above Bar Street, Southampton, Hampshire, SO14 7DT, via email at jshantsrbl@hotmail.com or by telephone on 01794 323487.
