Latest road works and closures - 23 July

Current road works:

Newtown Road will be closed from Tickleford Drive to Grange Road from 24 to 26 July for road improvements.

Athelstan Road will be closed from Peartree Avenue to Bitterne Way until 25 July for road improvements.

Richmond Street will be closed from Threefield Lane to Terminus Terrace until 31 August for road improvement and development works.

College Street will be closed from Terminus Terrace to Threefield Lane until 31 August for road improvement and development works.

Saltmarsh Road will be closed northbound between Royal Crescent Road and Central Bridge during the morning peak, 6am to 10am, until 11 September as part of the Central Bridge road improvement project (for diversion route, please click here).

Left turn from Albert Road North to the Itchen Bridge is temporarily permitted until 11 September as part of the Central Bridge road improvement project.

Anglesea Terrace will be closed at its junction with Albert Road North until September as part of the Central Bridge road improvement project (see link below).

Blechynden Terrace and West Park Road will allow one way traffic (inbound) until November.

Future road works:

Ruby Road will be closed at its junction with Deacon Road from 28 July to 11 August for road improvements.

Lumsden Avenue will be closed from 28 July to 11 August from Shirley Road to Charlton Road for gas main replacement works.

Lordshill Way will be closed from Coxford Road to Lords Hill Centre West from 28 July to 1 August between 8pm and 6am for road improvements.

Commercial Road will be closed from Havelock Road to West Marlands Road from 31 July to 2 August between 8pm and 6am for road improvements.

Bugle Street and French Street will be closed at their junctions with Town Quay from 4 to 9 August between 7pm and 6am to allow carriageway resurfacing to be carried out.

Commercial Road will be closed westbound from West Marlands Road to Above Bar Street from 18 August to 8 September to allow the installation of a new geothermal pipeline.

There will be the following road closures to allow the Southampton Boat Show to take place:

Herbert Walker Avenue will be closed from West Quay Road roundabout to Dock Gate 8 from 26 to 28 August and from 1 to 26 September
West Quay Road will be closed eastbound from its southern most junction with Harbour Parade to the entrance to the DeVere Grand Harbour Hotel on 3 and 24 September from 8pm to 6am.

Due to road improvements, there will be the following changes to traffic on Church Street, Victor Street and Vincent Road:

Church Street will be closed from Vincent Road to Salem Street from 4 August to 22 September
There will be no left turn from Church Street into Victor Street from 4 August to 2 September
The junction of Church Street with Vincent Road and Victor Street will be closed from 23 to 24 August.

Burgess Road will be closed eastbound from Basset Avenue to Meadowhead Road on 4 August between 8pm and 6am for emergency water repair works.

Pirelli Street will be closed from Harbour Parade to Western Esplanade on 10 August between 7pm and 6am to allow a crane to operate.

There will be a compulsory left turn from Bugle Street into Town Quay and from French Street into Town Quay from 11 August to 13 October due to road improvements.

Adelaide Road will be closed between North Road and South Road on 18 August, from 11.30pm to 5.30am, for level crossing maintenance.

The Avenue will be closed northbound on 18 August from 7.30pm to 6am for road maintenance works.

Northlands Road will be closed eastbound on 18 August from 7.30pm to 6am for road maintenance works.

Vincent's Walk (spur) will be closed from Pound Tree Road to Vincent's Walk (spine) on 26 August between 8pm and 6am to allow carriageway resurfacing to be carried out.

Vincent's Walk (spine) will be closed northbound from Hanover Buildings to Pound Tree Road on 26 August between 8pm and 6am to allow carriageway resurfacing to be carried out.

Mount Pleasant Road will be closed from Imperial Road to Radcliffe Road on 30 August between 11pm and 9am for rail tracks' renewal works.

Sea Road will be closed from Hazel Road to Hill Street on 22 September between 10pm and 6am for level crossing maintenance.

Street parties in August and September

The following streets will be closed due to street parties:

Bassett Green Close on 3 August from 11am to 8pm
Stafford Road on 6 September from 11am to 7pm
Luccombe Place on 27 September from 9.30am to 9pm
Hanley Road on 28 September from 10am to 10pm.

Central Bridge repair work

Southampton City Council has successfully secured government Pinch Point Funding to carry out major reconstruction works to preserve this important historic bridge. Work began late March and will continue until September 2014. Please click here to find out more about the work and the closures in place.

Station Quarter North project road works

West Park Road will be closed westbound from Havelock Road to Blechynden Terrace until September for road improvements works.

Blechynden Terrace will be closed westbound from West Park Road to Wyndham Place service road until September for road improvements works.

Blechynden Terrace (between Wyndham Place and Southbrook Road) will have temporary traffic management measures in place until September.

Improvements to Queen's Park

The former car park space, near Terminus Terrace to the South East of Southampton, will be transformed into a new section of parkland, extending the boundary and space within Queens Park. Wider improvements to the area of Queen’s Terrace (east of Latimer Street) and the roads surrounding the park will follow, including a new pedestrian-friendly space, wider pavements and new parking arrangements. The junction with Orchard Place will also be narrowed, to help improve pedestrian crossing opportunities and manage vehicle speed within the vicinity. More details to follow.

Maintenance of Redbridge and Millbrook flyovers

Redbridge and Millbrook flyovers will undergo maintenance works until approximately 30 September to refurbish the drainage and apply a protective waterproofing coating to the structures. At the moment, there will be no full road closures, only single lane closures overnight (from 8pm to 6am). Each flyover will be worked on separately to reduce delays. Limited lane restrictions may occur on slip-roads during the work programme. More details to follow.
