This monthly update will keep you informed of training courses for adults, plus learning and skills development opportunities which may be of interest to you.

Adult learners


Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (the OCN PTLLS course)

For those thinking about or currently involved in teaching adults, this course is for you!

In an informal yet purposeful training environment, the course will cover lesson planning, classroom management, teaching and learning strategies and how to assess and record adults' learning.

The 30-hour training (+ approx 20 hours' home-study) will give you a first stage qualification towards teacher training.

Dates:  23, 30 January, 6, 13, 27 February 2014

Time:    9.30am - 3pm

Cost:    £380 (no extras)

If you already work in the voluntary / community sector, J2 Training (Jackie Garratt and Shirley Johnston) may be well known to you. The course is an excellent opportunity for you to continue your professional development (CPD). If you have attended J2 Training's pre–PTLLS course (Introduction to Teaching Adults) you'll know what lies ahead!

Traditional Christmas Wreath - £20

Be creative and make your own Christmas wreath to take home. Work with fresh pine / spruce, holly, ivy, berries, bells, ribbon, fir cones and cinnamon sticks. You can also bring extra materials to suit your home colour scheme (e.g. baubles). 

Traditional Table Centrepiece - £16

Be creative and make your own Christmas table centrepiece to take home. Work with fresh pine / spruce, holly, ivy, white candles and red flowers. You can also bring extra materials to suit your home colour scheme (e.g. flowers and candles).

Contemporary Table Centrepiece - £16

Be creative and make your own contemporary table centrepiece to take home. Work with fresh foliage, ivy, lime green, red and white flowers, cellophane, brown paper and raffia. You can also bring your own materials to suit your home colour scheme (e.g. fresh flowers).


Food Safety in Catering

15 and 22 January / 10am - 3pm / Lordshill Community Centre

Award in Community Development 

Would you like to gain a recognised qualification in Community Development? TWICS (Training for Work in Communities) is running a course suitable for volunteers or paid community development workers, leading to a City and Guilds Award at Level 2 or 3. It will run on Fridays between January and March 2014.  More information can be found here.
